As Mike says - had they married in 1812 i would imagine they would have had quite a number of children upto 1820 +/= even if they had been married a couple of years before they started trying

Mark, you really need to see the parish records to be 100% sure to see if these look right. I would imagine John's occupation stayed the same or similar... so that maybe the area to concentrate on???

Mark,

have a look on Family search and also Lancs OPC.

Both free sites and lancs OPC is ideal for you looking in the Lancs area.

PS.. Your correct about the 1st entry..... defo not your man.

Can you just confirm " born Heaton" ... do you mean birthplace or that was the surname they were born with ?

Could this be your James ?

JAS. HEATON--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Event(s):
Birth:
Christening: 21 JUN 1818 Saint Peter, Bolton Le Moors, Lancashire, England

Parents:
Father: ABM. HEATON
Mother: ALICE

----------------------------------

In which case ...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ABRAM HEATON--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Marriages:
Spouse: ALICE FISHER
Marriage: 10 DEC 1810 Saint Peter, Bolton Le Moors, Lancashire, England

You really need to find James on 1851 census to confirm his age and birthplace, otherwise we are using guesswork.
