The only problem with that one is Sarah has an estimated birth date but first son born 1777. Certainly worth a look though.

I have found a second Frances Ashby with mother Sarah and birthplace correct. . I really think you need to contact Shirley on The Weald site. From what I can make out there are a number of Ashby families all millers and probably connected.

Sorry I cannot give an final answer but you will need to get proof for yourself. :-)

I am inclined to think that Frances is his mother and Sarah is his grandmother but would contact the other researchers to check their sources. several on Ancestry and on the Weald.

On the other hand the marriage on the family search site indicates his father is James. Various trees on Ancestry have parents as james Hills.

The trouble with Ancestry is one person makes a mistake and assumption and before you know there are dozens of them.

I think the 1876 death refers to James and Sarah in Igtham.
