Find Ancestors

Looking for any details of my ancestors birth in maybole ayr abt 1847 he later married margaret greer in co.antrim and became an argucutaril implentant manufacturer farming and I am told James Gray & Co was awarded bronze award at dublin exhibition in 1882 for making the 1st irish farming plough but I cant find this anywere. This information is great and i have looked on find my past but unable to find birth of james gray 1842 whose father is robert gray. on the census it shows james born ayrshire but not showing. thank you for all this searching. Sharonrose

My distant cousin had said that he came from maybole and his year of birth was abt 1841, he has a daughter called agnes might be after his mother, his father is a implant maker on the wedding cert of james gray to margaret 6.10.1862 antrim

The one in Newton on Ayr looks a fair possiblity as he had a daughter Agnes and another Jessie. Irish and Scots at that time like to name their children for parents and siblings.

is there any further records for scotland free that i can look up the gray=lawson family and when they moved to ireland if they are the correct family as james married in antrim but i cant find his family in any 1851 or 1861 census. Big thank you for all the tracing on the grays this has pushed me further to trace my scottish roots.

James Paton Gray married a Euphemia and was still in Ayrshire in 1901.

I think the other one was still in Scotland in 1891 and was a clerk.

They're all on ancestry but the 10 year old grew up to be a clerk in Scotland.

My james lived in Belfast Antrim by 1862 after he married margaret greer in oct 1862, i guess this one in scotland is not my james.`in 1901/1911 cenus for ireland it shows he born in ayr, so i dont know what step next. i thought the dublin exhibition would show his award in papers being 1st to manufactrur irish plough. cant find that either. im lost
