Potty

Having checked on Family Search, You meant Sarah born to Peter & Sarah. Curious that they chose to christen Elizabeth with her sister, when Elizabeth had already been christened in 1808 at St Gregory.

Wonder when Sarah died - always like to kill them off - so untidy not to.

Potty

There were a lot of Nicholls living in Sudbury at this time, but I do not recognise a marriage between Peter & Elizabeth.

Just a coincidence?

Potty

Potty Report 3 Jan 2012 11:14

familysearch also has a Sarah (b1813), daughter of Peter and Elizabeth, baptized on the same day as Elizabeth.

Old

Old Report 2 Jan 2012 18:44

Using Family Search Peter Nichols and his first wife Sarah Redgewell had a daughter Elizabeth Sarah Nichols born 26 Nov 1808 and christened 09 Dec 1808 St Gregory, Sudbury, Suffolk.

Family Search also shows Peter Nicholls and his wife Sarah having a daughter Elizabeth Nicholls born 26 November 1808 but christened 06 Nov 1814 in All Saints, Sudbury, Suffolk.

Have been unable to find the marriage of Peter & Sarah Redgewell or any other Peter & Sarah marriage at that time.

HELP!

MarieCeleste

Looks like you have found a child of William & Eliza - sadly both appear to have died.

I wonder if Eliza died - although William is shown as married in 1851:

HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone

Wonder if anyone can breath life into this query

"Where was William's wife Eliza at the time of the 1851 Census. William is shown as married i.e. not widower."

Thanks in advance

LOL! That's the mystery question, isn't it?? I really think the enumerator just got a little muddled.

(Still trying to figure out why my grandmother is on the 1901 census as "Betsey". It wasn't her name and no one ever called her that.... :-D).

Maureen

How did you get the 1901 Census info?

Have tried on ancestry without success.

Thanks

Maureen

Many thanks

I tend to agree with you about the 1881 Census - although why would ahe declare herself a widow?

The family is listed on the 1871 (both Ancestry and FMPast) as Guick.

That 1881 census is strange. It almost looks as though the enumerator got a little mixed up with the relationships. I'd swear that William should be her husband. Same age, place of birth, occupation, etc.

I agree that this death looks most probable:

To add to my last post:-

1. William Shakespear Quick - there is a death recorded in 1915 that looks to be a good candidate.
2. Cannot find William Shakespear quick on 1901 Census, but have found a William Quick on the 1891 Census marked as a widower and living with son William - occupation Wood cutter. On the 1881 Census Caroline's brother William was a wood cutter - another coincidence?

Old

Old Report 19 Dec 2011 11:54

Have a couple of queries that I hope can be resolved now that it is clear that Amelia was only 15 and daughter of Peter & Mary.

Where was William's wife Eliza at the time of the 1851 Census. William is shown as married i.e. not widower.

Amelia's sister Caroline, born 1837 married William Shakespear Quick and had several children - one of her sons married one of Amelia's daughters.
On the 1881 Census, Caroline is shown as a widow aged 40 living with her brother William 51, unmarried. I am puzzled by this and think it must be the wrong Caroline - but the children are the same and surely too much of a coincidence.
I have failed to find Caroline on the 1871 Census.

Have found a death for husband William Shakspear Quick in 1879, but several trees show him living much longer, even into the 1900s.

Fresh eyes may help to unravel the queries.

Thanks in advance

Arthur
