Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help me with some loose ends with this family please?

John Blockley b abt 1803 Mountsorrel Leicestershire. My 3rd G grandfather. I know about him.
Susannah Blockley nee Easom b 1811 Newtown Leicestershire My 3rd G grandmother. I know about her.

They had:

1. Emma Blockley b 1830 Mountsorrel d 1867 My 2nd G Grandmother. I know about her.

2. Caroline Blockley 1833 Mountsorrel. I find her in the 1851 and 61 and a marriage to I think William Crossley in 1864 in Leicester, then a census in 1871 in Islington with 4 children - Bibteser b1866 Mountsorrel (name must be wrong?), Elizabeth 1867 Islington, Thomas 1869 Lincolnshire and James 1870 Islington. After this 1871 census the trail goes cold for all of them.

3. William Blockley B abt 1835 Mountsorrel. I can find him in the 1851,71,01. In 01 he was still single. Cannot find the other census or death.

4. Benjamin Blockley b 1844 Mountsorrel. I am not sure if I am going wrong with this one as after his marriage he adds a middle name, Pollard, which does not appear before. Marries Mary Richardson and had 5 children. In 1881 he also has mother Susannah with him so must be the same.

5. Matthew Blockley b 1847 Mountsorrel. I only have 1851 for him.

I have 2 trees in Ancestry Fowlers and Blockley

Very grateful if some of the blanks can be filled in. Sorry it's so long.

thanks so far, yes that's William. In one of the census I have it says he was blind from an accident at the stone pit.

Okay, I will feed info as I find as otherwise it might get a bit complicated with all the different people.

Your WILLIAM (b. 1835) is still alive in 1911 census. Interestingly he is still living at Watling Street, Mountsorrel which is the same road as him and the rest of the family lived in way back in the 1851 census. The 1911 census shows he is 76 years old, single and "totally blind"

The BENJAMIN who married Mary Richardson seems to always have had the middle name POLLARD? The birth record is actually showing as 1842 Barrow-in-Soar and the death record shows as aged 80 in 1922 in Wellington, Shrops. All three records show with this middle name included.

EDIT

Can see the family in 1901 and 1911 census. In 1901 he is living with wife Mary and children Albert & Elizabeth in Walsall, Staffs. In 1911 he is the same but son Arthur is living back with. Both times, they have servants and their house in 1911 apparantly has 17 rooms!!

Excellent about Caroline, I thought she must have gone abroad as they were not to be found. I looked at the census and cannot get Violetta but it obviously is. I guess the enumerator mis-heard.

Hi Keeley,
Yes I guess it must be him. I was surprised as they were a fairly poor family I think and then one son Benjamin leaves 50K in 1922...a considerable sum. I suppose he did well. His sister Emma ,my G G Grandmother had to put 2 of her children in the workhouse, one my G Grandmother for the whole of her childhood. Just didn't seem to add up.

I think Matthew is actually Arthur....... looking at the image of the 1851 census it could be either;
