Hi Pamela,

I think that the family on 1901 and 1911 census are the right family.
I found on www.familysearch.org
Patrick Holohan born 30th April 1874.
Micheal " born 16th July 1878 (birth place Contraght)<<<<<<<
Ellen " born 17th March 1876
All with Father Michael
Mother Bridget Brannock.
Only Marraige that i can find is for a Bridget Brannock
Bridget Brannock Thomastown 1873 Volumn 14 Page 387 cannot find a corresponding Mickael Holohan though.

Contraght is the 1901 and 1911 census address for the family.
There is only a few Brannock families on Irish Cencus

Hi Pamela,
Mary is NOT on either 1901 or 1911 census in Kilkenny, Margaret and John are on 1901, only John is on 1911. So Mary was gone from home before either census was taken. Mary very easily could have been 19 in 1901 as she was born 1882 she would have been 19 in 1901 if the birth i gave you for Apr-May-june is hers. The Census was read on about 4th April and if she was born after that date she would be only 19 then.,and as her parents were married 27 years, 37 years in 1911, it is very likely (if she was one of the older children)that it may well be her family. as margaret and john were only young in 1901., also Father Michael was the only Michael Holohan in Kilkenny on both census that was a TAILOR. Also 9 children born, but only 5 living.Three children had gone from home in 1901.
Betty.

Why can't the 1901 be the right family?

You should not dismiss info out of hand...................

Try looking for them yourself in 1901 and 1911 in ireland if you don't think other people are finding the right family

URL for other thread posted last night.................see above

ONE post per family is the RULE....it's not optional.

As Mary would be about 19 in 1901 census this cant be the right family It is possible that she was not living with her Parents then. She was in Domestic service when she got married and may have been in 1901 so need to look somewhere else for her then. Thanks for everyone helping with this Pam

Hi Pamela,
Are the people that i wrote here last night (Michael Holohan Tailor) in Kilkenny in 1901 and 1911 Irish census, not the right people????.

Betty.

Pam, information on a death certificate is only as accurate as the knowledge of the informant. The granddaughter perhaps was told that her grandmother was that age, and that age would agree with the census that has been quoted but ages in census vary.

Have you looked at the links to websites given to you to see if you can find Mary and her father in the earlier census?

Mary Holohan died in 1930 (married name Williams) and is registered in December Quarter of that year and she was 48 years old. I know that information is correct from her Grandaughter but unfortunately she does not know anymore abouit Michael Holohan and rest of family. Thanks Pam

You will need to get one of childrens Birth Certs first as there are the two Marraiges in the same year, both Michael and Bridget to get the mothers maiden name. I suspect though that it may be the one in the Reg. District of Callan.

Good luck,

Well, the only birth registration in familysearch.org that I could see for a Mary with father Michael born about 1882 is 3 December 1880, Kildare: parents Michael and Kate Kenna Holohan. According to http://www.distancefromto.net/between/Kilkenny/Kildare
the distance between Kildare and Kilkenny is 37.71 miles. It could be right, sometimes geographical names are not always correct in census.

And perhaps you could kindly delete the newer thread about Mary's father? Thanks.
