MarieCelete, What I thought odd was that siblings born in 1865,1868, and 1869 (then a widow), should all get married on the same day. That's why I had my doubts. The date for Samuel Barnard's death is about right.

Londobelle, Could well be, but as I am not a direct descendant of Emily, I don't think I will take my investigations that far. At least I am happy to know why she was called Barnard when she married my grandfather. That has stopped me going crazy over it.

I dont suppose getting married was the big thing back then as it is now.

They married because it was frowned upon to live together I doubt whether they had huge expensive parties or gifts bought for them, but a decent meal after the service as it was christmas.

Most of mine married at christmas unless they were expecting...then it was as quick as possable :-D

Mel, No, according to the details I have, Matilda stayed single, Clara married Joseph Halstead, Georgina married John Sharpe, and Emily married Herbert William Sharpe (my grandfather).

Thanks everybody, you have all helped me a lot. Some of the details I knew, but you have now confirmed them. I now have enough to complete my research into Emily Barnard as far as I want to go.
