Pamela

This is the website for North Lincs Registrations which includes Messingham/Glanford Briggs. They have an online search facility but the only one coming up for Stow/e is the famous William C from Caistor
.

so far as I know, you do NOT need a birth certificate for a baptism

you do not need a birth certificate for a marriage

you do not have to show a birth certificate to register a death

I think the only time you need a birth certificate is to obtain a passport, and to obtain the Old Age Pension.

continuing search for Birth Entry/Certificate for William George Stow. When a child was baptised in 1890 would they have needed to produce a Birth Certificate. If that is the case then somewhere there must be a Birth Certificate for William George Stow born 27th February 1890 in Messingham Lincolnshire as we now know he was baptised on 18th April 1890 I ask this following my visit to WDYTYR Olympia. They also suggested I write to the Current Registrar for Messingham to ask if they will check for this birth. Does anyone know who and an address to write to for this. Many Thanks again Pam

Jack was often used for people whose birth name was John so worth following up if you can

Pamela

Pamela Report 21 Feb 2012 10:09

will check out Albert Brumby in 1901 census to add more to Brigg registration It does seem to be very likely the Jack Stow on 1911 is the one I am looking for and maybe they called him Jack to avoid confusion as there was already a John on Census What do you think? Thanks Pam

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 20 Feb 2012 16:55

there is certainly an Albert Brumby born 1893 in Glanford B and none born anywhere else between 1891 & 1897

lancashireAnn Report 19 Feb 2012 16:51

having now looked at the image I totally agree that it is definitely William George and the E of the transcribed Ann looks similar to the E in what is probably Ellen on the previous page

(I said I was clutching at straws!!!!)

Pamela

Pamela Report 19 Feb 2012 15:08

Many thanks for all your effort I believe the baptism is the correct one as if you look close at the larger image as we did with '"William Jack" it could easily be Ellen and if someone wrote this from hearing it " Ell Ann" could have been written slightly wrong Also there is still no Birth Certificate for child with the name as I have seen copies of any posibilities. The 1891 census shows Mary as eldest child born 1887 John is next born 22nd February 1888 (i have his birth certificate) and William George is next born in 1890 on 27th February Thomas was not born till after William and is not on 1891 census. Yes it definately says Son Thanks again Pam

lancashireAnn Report 19 Feb 2012 14:47

co-incidence??

Births Dec 1886 (>99%)
Harris William George Glanford B. 7a 685

same age as 1901 and same surname as Ellen's maiden name?

(clutching at the proverbial straws!)

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 19 Feb 2012 14:36

going back to that baptism in Messingham

If that is the right William George then does it not prove that he was not born into the Dalton Stow family as the mothers name is stated as Ann not Ellen

does it definitely say 'son' on the 1891 census and listed between John & Thomas?
