I shouldn't worry too much about the Coachman ND bit, it's some over writing that has been written onto Thomas's line on the original, but may relate to another peron.

Can't find any marriages for Betsey Parr to Ball, Batt or Bull??

The 2 stray children are probably in service somewhere else in the country.

Keith,

Most Genealogy websites transcribe their own data.... they do not share a common source.

So Findmypast & Ancestry (for example) both have people transcribing the same records... they are all effectively repeating the same task numerous times over!

That's where our subs come into play... part of them go towards the cost of this!

Sooooo, this means different sites can deliver different quality of results. I personally find FMP more accurate for transcriptions then Ancestry.

Fanny PARR Daur. U Female 19 Isleham, Cambridge, England Housekeeper
Thomas W. PARR Son Male 13 Isleham, Cambridge, England Post Boy (Coachman N.D.((Messenger)))
Mary PARR Daur. Female 11 Isleham, Cambridge, England Scholar
Sarah Jane PARR Daur. Female 9 Isleham, Cambridge, England Scholar
Jessie PARR Daur. Female 7 Isleham, Cambridge, England Scholar

John & Martha seem to have disappeared (or have different names) by 1881.

Sarh, Jessie, & James are new arrivals.

I'm sure you're right, Tracey, but I was curious because this implies the record(s) was transcribed twice and ended up in two different places. Or that's my interpretation anyway. I ddn't know there were multiple different copies of the transcribed census.

Which offspring Keith?

Brilliant, Andy, thanks.

Now I need to sort out the offspring as it looks as if some died young.

Jane's death in 1877 makes sense too.

Keith,

The differences are simply transcriptors interpretation of what they are looking at.

Handwriting from that era can be very very hard to decipher.

Thanks LiverBird, that's my Father:
London, England, Births and Baptisms, 1813-1906 about Arthur William Parr
Name: Arthur William Parr
Record Type: Baptism
I didn't know he had been baptised, but I supose pretty well everyone was as a matter of course.

Thanks for the two births, Tracey, those are definites.

Interesting comprison between LiverBird's and Choccy's listings: is the sister's family name Ball or Batt? They both refer to the same time, so what are the different origins of the extracts please?

Keith

That was fast! Thank you very much.

Andrew & safc: yes, that's the marriage I have but there's more detail her, thanks.

In Choccy's post, I thought "Dck ws a nickname for Richard, any chance it might be also for William?

Am I interpreting this record correctly: three Batts, presumably the married name of Betsey Parr who was TW's sister, living in the house?

Andrew & Mike: Parr Thomas William Newmarket 3b 562 - could be, but how could I confirm this please?

Mike: that 1881 household is very interesting. Looks as if James' wife Jane was no longer living with him (perhaps died?) and eldest daughter was looking after the household.

Any idea what the N.D. Messenger is all about?

Are the records of the 1871 census available?

Thanks again

Keith
