I'll keep working on tying the addresses together. I think Hilda must still having been living at home. My mum told me she was a secretary, quite unusual back then. The Hilda I have found was a retired medical secretary when she died. Okay there would be loads of secretaries but it's another link. I do have a photo of Hilda which i will try and get onto the tree. Thank you again for all your help.

When Iris was registered she had the middle initial T,
what was the T for?

Personally I think the occupation of secretary clinches it for you. There won't have been many with the name of Hilda Round, possibly she was the only one! I have to say this info would have been good to know from the start as it shows you are on the right track.
Who registered this Hilda's death?
Jan

Just had a thought about Sheila Round,. I've been trying to establish her link as Leonard's daughter but of course there may have been other sons to Decimus and Amelia after the 1911 census.

Did Hilda die 1984 or after maybe 1991and was Sheila Round the informant in 1984?

Hi, I think the marriage of Leonard to Hilda Collumbine might be a different Leonard. Hilda's brother Leonard would have only been 16 in 1925 - a bit young but not unheard of. I found a marriage for a Leonard Round in 1933 to a Clara Arch. I found a son born 1934 mothers maiden name Arch. He married a Sheila in 1959 at Staincross (Barnsley). Sheila - neice by marriage?

To Mary B. The T is for Troop - the couple who adopted Iris. The adoption looks like it could have been arranged before the birth.

To Jan. This is the Hilda whose death was registered by Sheila Round, neice.

MaryB. I don't know where I got 1984 from but it was a mistake. Hilda died in 1991 and was registered by Sheila Round classified as neice.

I have found two children who may be Leonard's grandchilren.

So her mum didn't register the birth then?
If she did its a bit strange giving her that middle name.

Maryb.

PS Elaine its best if you remove those living relative names.

I see the Troops lost 5 or 6 children at a very young age.

Hi MaryB, thanks for the tip I have removed the names.

The birth certificate I have shows Iris Troop as her name but with Hilda Round as the mother, although the BMD shows Round with middle initial T, as you say.. The only original birth certificate I have for Iris is the short version with her name as Iris Troop Round . The "full one" is a typed print that my sister in law got from her research.

Hi Rose, I know James and Maria had a very sad history of miscarriages but was only aware of one young child's death, that of Lily who died at 3 years old.
