Find Ancestors

I know where she was adopted but have never heard about descendants giving praise to James and Maria. On to Ancestry now.

Just so everyone knows. there is a family story re. Elaine's mother on Ancestry (found by searching for Hilda Round).

I PM'd Elaine to check if this is her mother, as unsure if still living, and her adoptive surname is given. Elaine is unsure if it is she who posted it!

I was intrigued that whoever it is has had emails from 'descendents' - descendent of who, I wonder.

Tinsley came under Rotherham reg district

Hida is recorded on the 1911 as born Sheffield as is sister Eva Rebecca aged 5 so c 1906.

Theres such a big gap between the 1911 and mums birth in 1928 that the family could have been anywhere.

Hilda could well have been in service when she gave birth OR living at home with the family

I think Jans suggestion to check the electoral rolls for the family is the best idea.

There is someone with a hilda round born 1904 sheffield, have you tried contacting them?

I have advised Elaine to check the address she has (on her mother's birth cert) on the electoral register to see who the other occupants were.

I have searched other trees and she isn;t there. I have my mother;s birth certificate from 1928 which shows only her mother;s name and address - no father. The address is 80 Greasbrough Road, Tinsley. This address is also on the adoption papers. Nowhere does any other name appear - for example if Hildas parents were noted that would clinch it but she wasn't a minor so I assume that wasn't required. The 1911 census for the Hilda I found shows her living at 80 Wentworth Road, Tinsley. Would both being no. 80 be a coincidence? Would you have any suggestions as to how I can tie the two together?

Also - do you have your mother's birth cert?

Hi, been a while since I was on here but I am still trying to find proof that Hilda Round is my birth grandmother. My mother was adopted in 1928 and we only have her mother's name and that she was from Sheffield - probably Tinsley. Her adopted parents kept in touch for a while but the last news they had was that she had moved to Barnsley. From 1911 census I now know Hilda had a brother and sister - Eva born around 1906 and Leonard born around 1910. Her death in Barnsley 1991 was registered by her neice, Sheila Round. If anyone is connected in any way I would love to hear from you. Everything seems to indicate this is the correct Hilda Round who is my grandmother but I would love to be able to say for certain and find any descendants of the family.
