Yes, that's them. They moved to Devonport after the first couple of children. And by 1881 Richard had already died. :-(

Hi Ann,
He was born in Polperro, as were his parents Richard and Susannah. He was the eldest son, born in 1846. There's often confusion around the spelling of Mutten. Even in the Cornwall Records Office they've got him and his brother down as Mutton in the archives.
But it really is MuttEn.

Thanks Ann, anything you can find, or if you could point me in the direction, I'd be so grateful.

could this be him? most Mutten's seem to hail from Cornwall

Glynis Report 3 Apr 2012 18:03

Hi there,
Just wondering if anyone could help me access my great-grandfather's brother's death certificate and details. Richard Mutten died in 1868 in New Brunswick, and is buried in St.John's Cemetery. Went off to sea at the age of 16 and died aged 22. So sad. Would like to know the story.
Any help would be very gratefully received.

Many thanks,
Glynis
