Elizabeth in 1851 is the age that Isabel (not recorded as Isabella) would have been - and there is no Elizabeth in 1841.

The two names could sound similar if not enunciated clearly

There is a four year gap between the death of Henry's first wife and his re-marriage - so who knows who the parents were of the children born in the interim period

Douglas

You say Stephen is 'prone to getting things wrong' - in what way?

If his findings differ from yours, it doesn't necessarily mean that he is the one who is wrong

You have not yet given any clear indication of how you connect to 'Isabella'. Please would you enlighten us - to help us to help you

I want to be convinced that you are researching the right Isabella Cowburn. If she was alive in 1863 in order to be married, what made you think she died in 1838?

But the Isabella married in 1863 has a father Joseph, not Henry. So what has caused you to home in on Isabella, i.e. how is she related to you?

No birth of an Isabella Cowburn around 1839. No sign on the 1861 census, just before the above marriage.

lancashireAnn Report 17 May 2012 17:44

the thing that puzzles me is that ALL the children born after 1827 are on lancsbmd but in every case the mmn = Aspin not Aspinall

eg (this one is Thomas)

Lancashire Birth indexes for the years: 1841
Surname Forename(s) Sub-District Registers At Mother's Maiden Name Reference
COWBURN (boy) Darwen Blackburn ASPIN D/4/65

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 17 May 2012 14:41

what I have found so far

nothing at Lower Darwen

St Paul's Blackburn
Richard c 28-2-1838 b 2-11-1837
Alice c 30-9-1839 b 23-6-1839

(that particular register only went up to 1840)

But I did find

c 9-6-1835 Henry Aspinall s of Henry & Mary Aspinall

could the 1st 3 children listed in 1841 actually be Mary's before marriage to Henry Cowburn or is it just a coincidence

Hi Ann
That will be great if you can find out as all Isabella's sibleings
are in the same boat, I was born Wyre Hall Farm Upper Rawcliffe Great Eccleston Lancashire England, Baptise, St Micheal's Church, St Micheal's on Wyre. have not been back to blackpool since I was a lad oprox 1960.
If only I had started my tree back than things could have been different.
Thanks which ever way it go's.

as all the children on the 1851 say born Lower Darwen I wonder if that is where the missing ones were baptised. Baptisms for there are only on line up to 1832.

I can have a look if you like when I am next in the record office but not sure exactly when that will be. Probably within the next 3 weeks.
