HI Marie Celeste

Thank you so much for all of the additional information, I certainly didn't expect you to carry on looking for me - that's so kind.

I have a good few things to follow up on now, especially the addresses which I always like to know, The majority of them are local to me as I live in London so I can look at them on street view.

I really appreciate everything you've found out for me.

Thank you

Christine :-)

Just an afterthought -

When my grandad died, he was the son of Alice Kitt and Richard Ray, we found among his papers an old birth certificate with the name Reuben Nedman Ray. My mum never knew anthing about this brother of her dads and she knew a lot and we both said where did the name Reuben come from - all of their other children had names of the time so perhaps Reuben and Alice were close and she named her son afer her brother - I would like to think so,

Sadly Reuben died in 1899 aged 3.

Thanks again,

Andrew

Well Marie Celeste and Andrew - Thank you you have made my night.

I knew it was too much of a coincidence for Rays and Kitts marrying so had to be brother and sister and it would appear you have both confirmed that.

Thank you so so much.

You are fantasticaly helpful people you lot. I very much appreciate all your help. :-) :-) :-)

Hi Marie Celeste

Reuben could have remarried - timelines are right. As I said all I know is what I have put on here tonight. Maybe Emma Gliddon came from Devon way and that's why he ended up there.

Food for thought!!

MarieCeleste Report 15 May 2012 21:04

On the service records Andy posted the next of kin is first given as father Wm which was later crossed out and changed to sister Alice Ray. So I think that's your connection.

Don't be hung up on the Middlesex/Surrey - parts of London were sometimes classed as one or the other.

Hi Andy

Thank you so much. I know he was in the army from the 1901/1911 census so could be him. The only thing that throws me is that this Reuben was born Middlesex and not Surrey which it should be for mine but thank you anyway this is something I can follow up.

Regards

Christine

Christine, I was thinking that the 1874 marriage for William Kitt was Reuben's father. It may follow that Reuben was named for William's own father.

Ignore the born 1874 - when adults were over 21 they often just had "full age" entered and the year of the marriage was put as the year of birth (a daft practice, in my opinion!).

Sorry

The post you sent for William Kitt born 1874 with father Reuben Kitt. marrying Mary Larry.

My Reuben was born about 1862/1863 - too young to be William Kitt's father.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 15 May 2012 20:48

Christine - given that posts can happen quite quickly on here you need to say which record you're referring to!

Which is the wrong age for Reuben?

Christine

Christine Report 15 May 2012 20:47

Hi

Wrong age to be my Reuben - he was born 1862ish.

Could be another relation. I won't know until I find William and Mary earlier.

Christine

Christine Report 15 May 2012 20:43

Hi Thank you

Yes that could well be Reuben. Wonder why he was in Devon??

Another mystery.

Thank you
