Philip was the brother to Ellen We have one of her sons birth cert and it says name of mother Ellen Arnold maiden name Mcguirk I am helping a friend with his research it is not my own but we are stuck with the marriage of Charles and Ellen some one has looked at the irish records and the marriage is not on there so I am wondering if they were not married
I cannot find either Ellen or Philip on the 1881 or 1891 census she appeared when she had married so is on the 1901 census
She was only 18 when she married

A lot of the Irish said they were born in England for fear of being sent back home....read that a few years ago in a family history book

Yes, Gins I've been looking at the surname McGuire too!

Just checked the image for 1901 census and it says that Ellen was born Ireland not Liverpool as transcribed on Vera's post

I think with the Irish accent, the surname has been misheard (I know, with my lot!)

I am getting confused! Did you say Philip was Ellens son or her brother? On this census, the age suggests its not her son

So Ellen had a son with the same surname as hers?


So, it looks like the didnt marry at all

Also Walton on the Hill where they were living in 1901 census is in the Registration District of West Derby

Checked the 1901 census and it looks like Ellen Ruth Shanks married Robert Haselden (Haseldon on 1901 census)

So it looks as if we are still missing a spouse for Charles Arnold!

I am wondering if they were not married and just lived together

Philip is her brother and he did not show up untill the 1901 census could not find his as well as Ellen in any other census
