Hello Jeanette

I'm going to have to go back to the Archive and have another look because I'm not sure that the information I found this morning is your Florence.

I found the marriage of Florence Amanda Spratt in St Helier in 1912, father James, so she is the Florence that the others found in the census returns. However she married a Charles Elias Parsons which I think rules her out.

There is a St Helier baptism record for a Florence Mary Spratt, born 22/1/1894, parents Samuel George Spratt, a shoemaker, and Mary Ann Le Marquand. They are on the 1901 but were easier to find in the local transcriptions where they are entered as a family rather than individually as they are on Ancestry.

Samuel G Spratt, M A Le Marquand (not unusual for women to be known by their maiden names here) and Flos M Spratt.

By 1911 Mary Ann has been widowed and is living alone. There are 2 Florence Spratts, both born 1894. One is a domestic servant and gives her father's birthplace as Southampton so she is the daughter of James, the other, also a domestic servant but a visitor in the Laverty household on census day.

Going back to the St Helier baptism records Florence M had at least 3 siblings (tho' where they are in 1901 is a mystery - might have to have a look at deaths)

Albert Gordon 1889
Lily Maud 1892
Douglas George born 23/1/1894 - who would appear to be Florence's twin although his birth is shown as being the previous day.

I'll try and pop back tomorrow to find the right marriage.

Hi Jerseylily
Thankyou ever so much for the info you have found.
If I start from the begining
My relation is Frederick Charles Freeman born 1892 St. Helier Jersey.
It is his marriage I am trying to find. I think he died in 1945 and I have found a service record stating he died 1945 husband of Florence Mary Freeman of St. Helier Jersey.
I have looked at the other trees on Ancestry and I know some of them state he married Florence Spratt but none of them have a date or place of marriage. I dont realy want to put her on my tree until I am certain of who he married.
Thankyou once again
Jeanette

If I had realized that your interest lay with Frederick Freeman I would have searched from that end - there are far fewer surnames beginning with F than with S.

I assume you've seen his baptism record at jerseyjeritagetrust.jeron.je and those of at least 3 of his siblings. By the way, Jean was not his mother's middle name but her surname, a not uncommon name here, pronounced in the French way.

Hi Jerseylily
I am sorry to be a pain but Frederick and Florence had a son Donald born 7 May 1921. A birth or baptism might give me more info about his mother.

You can go ahead and add Florence May Spratt (otherwise known as Flos!) to your tree. Here's the marriage record.

8/8/1912 at St Helier Town Church

Frederick Charles Freeman, aged 20, bachelor, occupation Labourer, living in St Simon (a district of St Helier), born in St Helier. Father Frederick Robert Freeman, Labourer.
to
Florence May Spratt, aged 18, spinster, occupation Domestic Servant, living in St James (another St Helier district), born in St Helier. Father Samuel George Spratt, Shoemaker.

The witnesses were Henry William Hinds and Mary Ann Spratt..

If you want any further work done on either of these families do let me know - I'm at the Archive most weeks. I did happen across the entry in the indexes for Frederick's parents marriage but didn't look up the full entry, it was between 1887 and 1891 at St Helier Town Church.

Hi Jerseylily
Do you know of any online sites where I may be able to look for births of children of Frederick and Florence. I have found one son Donald born St. Helier 1921 but havent been able to find births of any others. I found Donald through another family tree and then found he died in Poole Dorset but the other tree only has Donald and no siblings.
