Emigration 1868 fits in nicely and his Dad was also a blacksmith. His brother-in-law owned an Iron Foundry here in Scotland so Jonathan's parents were pretty well looked after in their old age. Jonathan must have been fairly comfortable too to be able to make so many trips home.

The only sad part about Jonathan's emigration was that two of his nephews follwed him over there and enlisted with Canadian Regiments during the first world war and both were killed in action. One of them was an only son born three months after his father's death.

Isn't it great when it (all?) falls into place!

Thank you both so much. That 1900 census with the kids is great! It confirms that the family that I have in Sorel, Richelieu, Quebec is the correct family. I had been looking at it for years but didn't want to add them to my tree without some more proof.

You have both truly made my day. Thank you. :-D

It says there his year of immigration into the USA was 1868, giving 32 years in the USA. Under the naturalisation column it has Na - ? means naturalised. His occupation given as Blacksmith - (not shoeing?)

Looks as though it says Can-English as per the places of birth of the two daughters, so I presume Canada - trying to get to grips with the Ancestry site!

Thank you too Maureen. The birthplaces that you have given me for his daughters is helpful. I wonder if the year of emigration may referred to when they moved from Canada to USA rather than from Scotland.

Can I push my luck at little please? What nationality does it give for the mother of Jane and Mary please?

Thank you so much Stuart. That looks like my man as I assume that Jane F is a daughter named for his Mum. I was hoping that his wife would have been alive then to tie in with the 1881 census that I have.

Thanks again for your help.

I wonder if someone with a worldwide Ancestry sub. would be good enough to lookup Jonathan Woodcock for me please?

Jonathon was born in Stirlingshire, Scotland around 1843/4. He seems to have emigrate sometime after the 1861 census was taken. He travels back home on several times, the last known time was in 1922 when he gave his occupation as a Forge Superindent.

I have a possible for him in Canada in 1881 but I know that he was living in 247 Orchard Street, Bridgeport, Connecticut when his nephew visited him 1905.

Any assistance will be much appreciated and thank you in advance for your time and efforts.
