I dont think this is my Evelyn. Her Marriage cert has her living in Glasgow 1917 she married. John Shaw an irishman and lived in the Anderston district of Glasgow.
I have witnesses to marriage both proved to be her husbands irish family. So my search again rests in London. There is an element off truth in my mothers recollection. She has always said her mother was a Londoner and her father was a baker or confectioner. I wondered could I try any trade directories. I know the name Taylor is verycommon.

Eva,

The 1917 marrige cert wil, give Evelyns address at time of marriage, state if either parents were deceased , and the witnesses can often be identifiable.

This census grom Glasgow 1901is rather odd, obviously mistranscrobed, but I wonder if ther any any connection

The head of household Thomas Taylor is a 4yr old Wesleyan Minister and his sister 38yr old Evelyn is a SCHOLAR.
Everone on the return was born in England, except 17yr old Servant Maggie McLeod

This has evidently been mistranscribed

Eva

Eva Report 22 Jun 2012 21:47

I am trying to find details of my grandmothers birth.

Her death cert says her mother was Jane Morrison and Father George Taylor.
She was born around 1884-86. Death certificate would suggest 1895 but she seeemingly lied about her age when she married.
My mother has altheimers so I cant rely on her recollections but she has always said her mother was a Londoner, from Shepherds Bush and that her grandmother died in childbirth on Christmas day.

I have found an Evelyn Taylor living with a family in Shepherds bush in the 1911 census. She was a servant, aged 15. I have no way of knowing if this is her. Can anyone suggest where I go from here.
