Mary

Mary Report 7 Aug 2012 13:48

Sorry if this confuses matters regarding Mary A Drummond in 1861 wife of master marriner
1861 Bishop Wearmouth D2 > 55
Next door to Mary A is a John Potts age 29 also a seaman
William J Potts son
Susannah Potts wife 23. nee Drummond.

Susannah Drummond married John Potts 1858.
1851 West Sunderland D 2 >43
Mary Ann Drummond age 34 seamans wife
Susannah age 12 = 1839.

Same people?
1841 Bishop Wearmouth D3 > 2
Mary Drummond 25
Susannah 2?
Mary 4
Elizabeth 9 not sure of this one as that would make Mary 16 at birth of Elizabeth.

Maryb.

Looking back at all the replies to this post it looks like the Mary Davison marriage is the one as she was born Sunderland in 1817 which matches the 1861 census
Thanks for finding that marriage as i still can not come up with it anywhere
Thanks to everyone who has helped
Appologies Roy I think I have missed hitting the marrige button before got it now

drummo Report 7 Aug 2012 12:18

The 1842 death of Mary Ann does not fit with her being in the 1861 census
the 1869 death in June quarter means William re married within 3 months of her death which i suppose is possible
Looks like i can rule out the William Drummond marriage to Mary Drummond in 1842 at Durham
I am a descendant of Williams brother James also born Whitby 1819 also a mariner, family moved to Sunderland around 1826
Could be william on the Master mariners list

Yes that looks like Emma's first marriage
the only death that matches for Mary A is in the same year he married Emma?

Well the 1861 census for Mary Drummond is so clear and it has the initial A and she is married and a master seamens wife. So if William remarried in 1869 to Emma Purdy I wonder if they got a divorce or Mary Ann died??

drummo

drummo Report 7 Aug 2012 10:20

I have looked at the tree on mundia (it may be my tree you looked at) but only yesterday looking at the parish records at williams marriage to Emm did i see he was a widower and i did not have his 1st marriage

drummo Report 7 Aug 2012 10:15

Thanks Chris I now have a Mary Drysdale ,a Mary Davison and a possible Mary Drummond (1842 durham) who all could be the Mary Ann Drummond on the 1861 census very confusing

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 7 Aug 2012 10:12

The marriage to Mary Drysdale was in 1846 but a tree on Ancestry has his parents as George and Mary so I don't think this is your one.

Did he marry again to an Emma Purdy who was a lot younger than him?
