I know! Good job we persisted even though it seemed a bit daft given what has been said about the emigration date. Just goes to show, look for the simplest thing first, in this case a UK marriage.

brummiejan,
thankyou for your help..apologies, my mind is not quite as agile anymore. In Thomas Hall's obit it said that he arrived in Canada 1908.
His marriage to Constance Ward was reg. 4Q1908 so could have been as early as Nov (assuming this is the correct marriage) so a transAtlantic voyage in the Winter of 1908 is feasible (but not comfortable)
I don't have access to 1908 Canada bound Passenger Lists.
I plan to get their 1908 wedding reg.
Thomas Hall was my wife's great uncle, her dad had visited the family in Montreal in 1967... we have lost contact with the family now, but will try for living relatives there. Thanyou Jan for your help
Best Regards, Brian

Brian - 1908q4 includes Oct - 6 Nov was the last Liverpool departure to Quebec City/Montreal (arr 14/11/08). After that ice (or fear of ice) closes the St Lawrence, and one has to use an Atlantic port like St John NB or Halifax NS, followed by a 625/950 m train trip. This makes a trans-Atlantic trip to Boston or New York, followed by a 325/400 m train trip a reasonable alternative.

Thos is a Mechanical Engineer - prob his occup with CPR per obit.
He's already spent 8 y in Canada (that's what he says). I can't make out Connie's entry - it's obscured by a "Ret(urne)d Canadians" stamp.
He's a nonconformist, she CofE - they intend to remain Forever.
