Brian - 1908q4 includes Oct - 6 Nov was the last Liverpool departure to Quebec City/Montreal (arr 14/11/08). After that ice (or fear of ice) closes the St Lawrence, and one has to use an Atlantic port like St John NB or Halifax NS, followed by a 625/950 m train trip. This makes a trans-Atlantic trip to Boston or New York, followed by a 325/400 m train trip a reasonable alternative.

brummiejan, thankyou for your help..apologies, my mind is not quite as agile anymore. In Thomas Hall's obit it said that he arrived in Canada 1908. His marriage to Constance Ward was reg. 4Q1908 so could have been as early as Nov (assuming this is the correct marriage) so a transAtlantic voyage in the Winter of 1908 is feasible (but not comfortable) I don't have access to 1908 Canada bound Passenger Lists. I plan to get their 1908 wedding reg. Thomas Hall was my wife's great uncle, her dad had visited the family in Montreal in 1967... we have lost contact with the family now, but will try for living relatives there. Thanyou Jan for your help Best Regards, Brian

I know! Good job we persisted even though it seemed a bit daft given what has been said about the emigration date. Just goes to show, look for the simplest thing first, in this case a UK marriage. Jan

You might be right Londonbelle - both of them have births as Gorsty Hill Staffs, but how many Percy Ball Wards can there be! Well spotted, I did have a look but couldn't find him. Jan

Good luck Brian. I hope I haven't led you up the wrong tree! But I suppose I would be tempted by that marriage too if it were me. Out of interest, what date did they travel on in 1908? Jan

safc, Margee, Brummiegan, Gins, Londonbelle, Alviegal,
Thankyou all so very much for your time and help...and so quick !
Brummiegan, I will pursue the Scarboro marriage lead. 9d735 and 9d785 was a good catch that I had missed. Even tho there seems to be a conflict with 1908 passenger list.
Londonbelle, the 1954 passenger list tie in, to Dudley Ward was a good catch too, that I missed. Tom Hall's parents were indeed Henry Louis and Harriet Hall of Ackworth.
Thankyou all, again, for your extra pairs of eyes and your minds on this search.
Brian

The guy in Margee's census is an artist [y.o.immig left blank]
1911 Census of Canada Home / 1911 / Quebec / Montreal St. Antoine / 35 St. Antoine ward / page 58 43 564 Hall F. H. M Head M Mar 1885 26 44 564 Hall Constance F Wife M Aug 1886 25 [addy=57a Coursol]
http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/1911/pdf/e002074482.pdf
He's listed as Hall, T.H., artist, 57a Coursol in 1911 Annuaires Lovell de Montréal et sa banlieue[=suburbs] http://bibnum2.bnquebec.ca/bna/lovell/
EDIT Rue Coursol still exists in part -it's a couple of blocks SE of Rue St-Antoine, but it no longer exists at the E end around Rue Berri and Rue St-Andre, which is the bit where the Halls lived.

I am beginning to wonder if that marriage might actually be a possibility.
However, this is likely to be her 1891 - no sign of a Dudley!!
