Thanks PollyPoppet. I thought maybe you guys knew of a way to do it in one go. I guess you must have to do it one person at a time. I shouldn't be so lazy.

I must be missing something. If I copy the 1871 census, from the printer friendly page on ancestry, for John Booth I get this:

Name: John Booth
Age: 33
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1838
Relation: Head
Spouse's Name: Sarah Booth
Gender: Male
Where born: Broseley, Shropshire, England
Civil parish: St John
County/Island: Worcestershire
Country: England
Registration district: Worcester
Sub-registration district: West Worcester
ED, institution, or vessel: 4
Household schedule number: 279
Piece: 3047
Folio: 75
Page Number: 48
Household Members:
Name Age
John Booth 33
Sarah Booth 30
Henry Booth 6
Elizabeth Gurney 19

This only has the details for John Booth and not the other people in the household ????

From ancestry, you can then add the other details one-by-one. (A little work)
You can also tidy up the entry by removing e.g.'Name Age' and/or putting some details on the same line.

patchem, yes that was the way I thought you would have to do it. I thought PollyPoppet was suggesting that you can do it in one go. I must have got my wires crossed.

Don't know how to post from A but sometimes a record will cut and paste neatly on here and sometimes it spreads out with big gaps.

For those, I paste onto an e-mail and choose paste rather than paste as plain text. It should paste nice and nearly but if not and you get the gaps still, it is much easier to delete the gaps in an e-mail page. Whichever way I've done it I then copy and paste onto here.

Jill, this is the advice I was given from MarieCeleste when I was using Internet Explorer and getting the big gaps. It worked.

Alviegal - if you're using IE8 then to stop all that white space there is a little icon that looks like a piece of torn paper - it's next to the website address bar at the top. Click on that until and it changes colour, then click on it for any other tabs you have open.

Then when you copy and paste in future the spaces should be gone.

(Or download a different browser!)
