Glynne...........
Why did you latch on to RBH?
You stated that he was born in Wiltshire.....but haven't provided any proof.......so why do you think he could be connected to the South West? Especially as you say that your relatives stayed within a 50-mile radius of (presumably) Stogumber
Sarah
What point are you making?

Glynne - what was your John Hole's occupation?
It might have been an idea from the outset to say what the connection was that you were trying to make. That way time could have been spent looking for that connection instead of on records that may be of no relevance.

:-) Thanks i'd better make myself more clear. Richard Brassey Hole is not a direct relative,John Hole is my Gr gr gr gr grandfather brn c1779 his wife Susanna Brass brn 1775, they married 1795 in Stogumber. The Hole surname is not uncommon in Somerset & Devon it seemed to originated from there. They all seemed to live in a 50 ml radius so it's a stab in the dark and any help would be welcome, thanks for all your help

Glynne, I spent a lot of time researching and transcribing those newspaper articles.
Are you saying that Richard Brassey Hole may not be related at all?
What else do you know about "your" John Hole? "Sometime in the 1700's" covers a hundred years so can you be more precise?

Is the man you asked about actually in your tree?
The only way to prove/disprove potential links of any kind is to do the research.........one step at a time

DEATHS At Salisbury, on the 23rd ult., Richard Brassey Hole MD - Friends will be pleased to accept of this intimation.
(There is also an article in the Salisbury & Winchester Journal but the image won't load)
The fact his death was reported in Scotland seems to show a connection.

Salisbury and Wiltshire Journal - Saturday 14 February 1846
TO THE GOVERNORS OF THE SALISBURY INFIRMARY
My Lords and Gentlemen In consequence of a recent Family Affliction I find it necessary to leave Salisbury for a short time. I fear, therefore, that it will not be in my power to pay my respects to those of you on whom I have not as yet had the honour of waiting. Trusting that the above will be a sufficient apology for any apparent remissness on my part. I have the honour to be, my lords and gentlemen, your obedient servant. Richard Brassey Hole, The Close, Sarum
