Find Ancestors

Don't ask me where I got this from as I have looked at so many Wotherspoon's I am losing track of them :-(

Anyway, I have in my tree a Robert D Wotherspoon born in Old Monkland, Lanarkshire, abt 1859 to a James Wotherspoon born abt1809 and a Margaret Waddell born abt 1818, however I cannot prove that to be the case and what little information I have found is mainly in Pedigree Resource Files and I find information from these to be very confusing and often not reliable.

These also intimate that he was married twice, once to an Agnes ??? possibly in Nova Scotia but I have been unable to trace her surname, he then married a Margaret Millar or Anderson on 10 February 1905 in Glasgow.

Can anyone stop me tearing my hair out over this one.

trees on ancestry have the Ayshire born Roberts parents as in the census posted above, however another tree has the Lanarkshire born Robert with parents Robert Wotherspoon
and Magdalene Thomson and married to Jessie Hosie in 1888 Denniststoun, Glasgow, Scotland.

The info on the LDS site is almost always unreliable, to say the least, unless extracted from parish registers

Hi Maddie,

These Ancestry and Pedigree Files are so conflicting and confusing, one person says one thing and another says something else.

I am fairly new at this and I made the mistake of using one of them, entered about 30 people on my tree only to find out the information was wrong so had to remove them all.

If I cannot find definitive answers myself I prefer to rely on the very helpful people on here who go out of their way to help us amateurs.

The Robert Wotherspoon that you detail from the 1911 Census of Canada does not appear to be the one I am looking for. However he may be related to one of the other Wotherspoon's in my tree so I will save that information and research further into it once I have dealt with Robert D Wotherspoon.

The 1861 census transcription details for Wetherspoon fit exactly with the Wotherspoon family I have on my tree, they appear to have moved between 1845 and 1849 from Lanarkshire to Ayrshire.

Also the information from the 1930 United States Federal Census and the Florida death details look very much to be those of the Robert D Wotherspoon that I am looking for, he was an Engineer's Manager according to the details of his marriage to Margaret Millar or Anderson.

Will now try to find out if he was previously married to an Agnes ???, which he allegedly was, in Nova Scotia, according to a Pedigree Resource File.

Seems to me that RWW and Alexander were the sons of Robert and Margaret. The other children, John, Margaret, Agnes were born to a different mother of whom I can find nothing about so far.
