Mel.

Have thought of looking for George with a birth date nearer Ediths birth date as he was 19 years older than her.

As if he was born around 1893/4.

Your friend really needs to send for the marriage cert to see how old George was pertaining to be..

As he was actually only about 8 years younger than her father..

George Tummon and Edith Peterken are his grandparents their dau Mary Tummon 1929 was his mother.

I have found the other married one too Mel !!

I just wonder if perhaps he was a bigamist and that was why the marriage and children details were crossed out ???

Just a thought!

Thaks Sue and yes we know that. It is really just George we can't find. I suppose he could have been travelling at the time of the census?? and just been missed off.

Still I suppose we will never know...................................

I did have a look at millitary records but could only find a George Tummon from Derby and when I looked he had a wife and two children so I ruled that one out.

Mel..
I have been looking for George and thought he might have been with one of his siblings.
But no luck so far and I have traced all of his siblings.

2 of George's siblings died as infants,
2 older,1 in teens other in early 20's.

the rest married.

William ands Elizabeth had 10 children and 6 living in 1911.

Maybe Mel - Could have been a STD which he passed on - quite rife at the time (there was a war on after all and many of them came back home with such things).

We cannot judge !!

I think the second marriage was in Romford Essex as that is Where Edith \mabel Peterken was born. It comes under West Ham. I am from that way and West Ham covers a big area for births.

There is also this birth which I suspect was George's baby which I think died too.

Mother's Maiden Surname: Peterken

I wonder if it was his fault a lot of his children died? I don't mean that in a bad way..................................

Yes Stuart it does seem as though Fanny died either in or just after childbirth with Ivy.

I am still trying to find George on the 1911 but I suppose he could have been anywhere. It is a strange surname to look up as it could be transcribed as anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have tried many.

Dea

Dea Report 20 Nov 2012 16:07

I had presumed that that was the case Stuart - sadly !! :-(

2 further births Tummon/mmn Elwick post Sep Qtr 1912 in Hull RD
Ellen Jun Qtr1913
Ivy Sep Qtr 1916
So either George was still around somewhere - that would fit in with the death reg. (or that's the surname they were given at Registration).

Did George re-marry?

Ancestry trees suggest this one but I don't understand why it is in Romford?

Marriages Mar 1918 (>99%)

Peterken Edith M Tummon Romford 4a 932
Tummon George Peterken Romford 4a 932

There are a further 8 children born in Hull?
