Could someone have a look at this please?
My husband's granddad had 2 brothers and a sister,or so it was thought.
I think she might have been adopted though.
This is what I have...
Charles Johns born 1859 and wife Annie born 1861 are on the 1901 census living in Plymouth Devon with sons Ernest,Charles and William.(Sons births are accounted for)
In 1911 Charles and Annie appear in Fulham with a 'boarder' Mary Luscombe age 9 ,born in Plymouth.(They later moved back to Devon)
There is a Mary Luscombe born in Plymouth in 1902,so this might be the one.??
My mother in law would talk about her Aunt May Johns, who lived in Plymouth and a May Johns died in 1981.
I believe this is Mary Luscombe as I can't find any evidence of Charles and Annie having a daughter named May.
Any opinions please!!

Not quite sure what you're asking.........probably my fault

The 1981 death cert should record the woman's birthplace.............and maiden name, if she was married

What's the DOB as per the death record?

It would help if you posted it on here for us to see.....................

Reggie
I don't have the death cert. so do not know the DOB. I am not sure it is the right person yet.
I am really still a bit confused about this. The family say she was a sister, but I can't seem to find a birth for a May Johns.
I just wanted an idea of what to do to find out for sure.
I thought of ordering the birth cert for Mary Luscombe, but it won't really help me apart from giving that lady's parents who I probably wouldn't know anyway..
May never married either, so no cert there to help

Charles and his wife could have taken in the girl, and changed her surname, but there was no legal adoption until the mid-1920's

Reggie,
Thank you for posting the birth.I didn't know of May having a middle name, but she could have done.
Yes,that is the family in 1911. So the 3 boys are the only natural children Annie had. Also, she was getting on a bit by then!
TootyFruity
Thank you for that marriage.I have not come across George (as yet) but it might well be a connection

I have been trying to find the death,. I can't find it so I think maybe someone told me it and it is not right. I do know that May lived to an old age , died in Devon and never married. so the Crocker marriage is out..
The May who is the daughter of George seems to be a different one to the one Annie /Charles had.. but the Luscome connection is odd though..
I think I need to fond more bits from the family as wahat I have is too vague..
Thank you for your help

Thank you... Then if what I am told about My May is correct, then she is not that May Johns. So it looks more likely that she was Mary Luscombe.
Still seems funny that they have a relative named Luscombe !

Reggie
Thank you.. none of them appear to be May..if what I have been told is correct..
This is confusing. I think I need to discount the things the family have told me and go back to square 1 using the evidence of the dates you have provided..
None of those birth dates apply to Mary Luscombe.. I am going to try to contact my sister in law to find out what else she knows/ addresses etc and maybe she can rethink the death.
Thank you all so much for your help
