Find Ancestors

I've just found a death for Jane Arron in 1849 but it doesnt give her age.

There is an Ellen Donnelly in the 1841 census aged in Liverpool.

No I think that is a possibility. On Mary Ellen Arron's birth cert is says:
born 7/4/1867 at 25 Eastbrook Lane Bradford. Mother Ellen Arron formerly Avis.

I have been looking for any children from Ellen Donnelly and William Avis. There's Margret Avis born 1847 died 1847 but it doesnt say who her parents were.

Possible siblings to Ellen: Peter who married in 1844 and Thomas who married in 1856.

I can't find a marriage of Ellen to George Arron though unlee they married a lot later or not at all.

Have you ruled out Ellen Donnelly who married Henry Avis in 1845?

yes I've had a look and the middle name Judith doesn't appear on Matilda's marriage certificate and I don't understand why she would be christened after the others.
Thanks for your advice. I'll try to see if Ellen remarried as I can't find a death for either Ellen or Jane Arron.

Irishbelle....Check out the St Chads Rochdale Baptismal Registers..all the Baptisms for the named children are on there..but for 1870s...
Elizabeth b1859 has an Elizabeth for mother the rest Ellen...was it a transcription error...???

Unless there is another George Aaron/Arron (same age pob and occ) with wife Ellen and same named children then these are surely yours

It's quite a mystery isn't it - I wonder why the births are so hard to find. It's possible that they were born under a different surname - maybe Mary Ellen was the only child born to the couple, and the others are Ellen's but not George's? She might have been previously married too.

The other children George c1857, Eliza c1859, Matilda c1861, Henry c1864 were born in Liverpool as per the census and I can't find their births. Most of the christenings in the family were at St Peters church which was destroyed in WW2. That's why I sent for Mary Ellen's birth cert as she was born in Bradford. From this I found out that her Mum was called Ellen Avis but I can't find anything about her.
I also sent for the marriage cert for the marriage of George Arron to Jane Andrews. George's dad on this marriage cert is Peter which is correct and George's occupation is Tailor which is correct.
But his wife is called Ellen on the census and now on Mary Ellen's birth cert.
So I thought the only way forward was to find Ellen Avis's birth or anything about her.

I can't quite 'get' the idea that a child born Mary Ellen would be recorded as Ellen in the census, when her mother's name was also Ellen.

Mike*'s post of an 1858 birth for Matilda is not this family...........that girl is in Birmingham in 1871 with her family

Is this certificate where you got the mother's maiden name from ?

(although 1871 census has all children born Liverpool)
