I'm sure there's a Newport in Devon? Could that have been mistaken as Newport in Monmouthshire on the 1881?

EDIT: On that 1871 she's a widowed needlewoman from Cockwood?? Devonshire.

Have you got their marriage cert Margaret? This would show her maiden name (I assume you think she might have married previously?).

Hi Margaret - welcome to the boards.

Can I just clarify, do you mean she married Moses in 1873?

Margaret

Margaret Report 16 Jul 2013 22:25

Can any one help? This lady married Moses Hayes my Great Great Grandfather in 1973. The story in the family is that she came to this country (Newport in 1870) following the Otto Von Bismark war the dates would fit but she arrived pregnant or with a son Joseph born 1870 or 1871.In the census she is listed in one as born Devon and one as born Newport. I can't seem to find her maiden name not sure if it's Cordey (which is a Breton Name) Any advice? The Breton origin has been the source of many tales over the years and my relatives Grandfather and Great Grandfather look Breton. Very strange would like to know more.

Thanks If anyone can help.
