I think it's likely that if they were staying in the lodgings in langley Moor, it was to appear at the new Empire Theatre? a photo of it from 1941 can be seen, and where it was on the map,

Michael, if the marriage cert is not much help , and all else fails, it might be worth your taking a look at 'The Stage'

http://www.thestage.co.uk/

at the bottom of the page it has a link to:
Archive (1880 – 2007)

you can search the archives for a fee ( £5 for 24 hours, £15 for a week) it might just have a mention somewhere of Hilda though it would be a long trawl through.

Yup, just ordered the certificate, awaiting the post, lol.

Hilda and Henry def together in 1926.
Mums birth line shows hilda nuttall (revue artist) of no fixed abode with father being Henry j Lawrence, (orchestral musician) also of no fixed abode but residing at 159 front street, Langley moor and Brandon, durham.
But where they went to after that is unknown, my mum spoke of seeing one of them in a Blackpool show sometime later.(date and show unknown).
Mum was kind off adopted up to scotland when she was still quite young

It may be relevant ( or not) that there are no children following that 1932 marriage, if they already had your mother, and were still touring on stage, they might have decided not to have more children?

Michael

Michael Report 10 Aug 2013 13:04

Wow, thanks for that. Wish I had asked this a long time ago, will check them out. Unfortunately my mum was born out of wedlock and in the 1920's that was frowned on, nice to see they have got married later on. Will let you now if this is the correct one but going on the names there can't be many.
Again thanks

Mike

KempinaPartyhat Report 10 Aug 2013 12:12

How do you know they belong on your tree then?

Yes that may be the only way to go

Michael

Michael Report 10 Aug 2013 12:10

Unfortunately I have no idea or her or Henry's Dob, age or even their death. I don't even know if they got married and this seems to be a problem searching the various databases. I am now enquiring with some of the theatres to see who or where their records if available are kept..

Ok so its a family tree thing ......

Often finding her birth marriage and death will lead to other things ...

Do you know where she was born, the year
parents
brothers sisters ect??

Michael

Michael Report 10 Aug 2013 11:50

Yup tried all these things, trying to find out their details for my family tree and to see what happened to them in later life, didn't know how popular Hilda Nuttall is for a name. I don't know if this was the name she used on the stage

Has anyone any info about Hilda Nuttall an actress/music hall entertainer from the 1920's. all I know at the moment is she lived in front street, Langley moor in May 1926 with her partner Henry James Lawrence who at that time was a orchestral musician. I believe this address was lodgings for entertainers.
She appeared as a nun in a play called Maria Monk, but I can't find any more info regarding her or where the play was.
Many thanks

Mike
