Possible for his father in 1881 - occupation would explain how he and Bessy met (but you really need his marriage cert to get his father's name. Notice his brother John's middle initial:

1881 England Census
Name:John J. Wilson
Age:21
Estimated Birth Year:abt 1860
Relationship to Head:Son
Mother:Joanna Wilson
Where born:Scotland
Civil Parish:March
County/Island:Cambridgeshire
Occupation:Grocers Assistant
Registration District:North Witchford
Sub-registration District:March
Joanna Wilson 55 b Scotland, widower
James F. Wilson 23 b Scotland
John J. Wilson 21 b Scotland
Isabella T. Wilson 16 b March
Edward Thos Wilson 14 b March

In March in 1871 - with father:

Thomas T Wilson 39, bookseller and Stationer, b Carnworth, Lanarkshire (transcription says Lancashire, but it is Lanarkshire on the image.)
Joanna Wilson 44 b Edinburgh
James F Wilson 13 b Edinburgh
John J Wilson 11 b Edinburgh
Isabella T Wilson 6
Edward T Wilson 4
Elizabeth Jackson 21

You will need to use scotlandspeople to find his birth and parents' marriage. His birth cert will give his parents' date and place of marriage.

Following on from Chris's post, Bessie Ellen is still at the same address in 1934 but James Fraser Wilson is not recorded there.

So did he get together with Hannah in 1933/34, which would make her about 32 at the time - so young enough for 3 children. He left it a bit late though must have been 44 or so when they hooked up.

Jane

Jane Report 25 Aug 2013 12:49

He was 12 years older than Hannah. My mother in law was born oct 1935, her sister feb 1937, and her older brother Jim must be about 1934. I know they are all very close in age. I presumed he was with Hannah a few years beore then. I heard they moved away from London to start a new life in Bristol where no one knew them.maybe she was pregnant then with Jim and as they wasnt married, could pretend and start afresh..James's dad was 14 years older than Bessie so it must run in the family. Not with me and my hubby though, we were born one day apart..

Was you m-I-l and her siblings registered as Wilson or Paul? (or both) Or if you don't know just post up their Christian names and we should be able to find out.

Jane

Jane Report 25 Aug 2013 13:22

I have her as Paul. Her siblings were, Rosa 1885, Nancy 87, William 89, Daisy 91, Henry 93, Emma 96 and Frank 1899' the parents were William Paul and Mary Paul (Bridgment)...

Flip Report 25 Aug 2013 13:58

Sorry, but my internet keeps crashing.

Wow, looks they moved around a lot before settling in Bristol:

James F born Manchester South Q2/1934
Dorothy M born Bucklow Q3.1935
Ann born N.Bierley Q3.1937 N.Bierley

Do these look right to you?

Mary

Mary Report 25 Aug 2013 14:22

Connection??

James F Wilson married J/A/S 1933 Manchester South 8d 456 to Nancy Paul.

James F Wilson born A/M/J 1934 Manchester South 8d 101.

Nancy was often a nickname for Ann so could be a possibility.

Are you sure of your m-I-l mother's mother's name? I'm seeing a James F marriage to a Nancy in 1933 Manchester.which could account for the births, but maiden name does not match.

Think Mary has already beaten me to it!

Jane

Jane Report 25 Aug 2013 14:28

The names and dates match. Hubby said they did move around alot..surprised Jim was born in Manchester, that we never knew. Dorothy was born in Bambury, Oxfordshire. Is Bucklow near there? Where did you find this info please? Jane..

I had been looking at that 1933 marriage - I think it may be a Catholic one but it is certainly James Fraser! ??

Apparantly, her real name was Hannah but she was known as Nancy. She had an older sibling that died called Nancy so maybe she was affectionatly known as Nancy because of that as Hannah was the youngest child..Havent thought of looking under 'Nancy Paul' for marriage as always told it was her nickname and we have her birth records as Hannah..What details does it say for this marriage please? Jane..

It's all available on freebmd.org or on ancestry - you just need to widen your serach criteria!

In other words keep an open mind, our ancestors do not always do what we think, not do they always know their birth years or even how to spell their names! Many of our ancestors were illiterate, an couldn't count!!!!

Bucklow is Cheshire.

Mary

Mary Report 25 Aug 2013 14:36

Dorothy has the middle initial of m is that correct.
Did she marry in 1956 ? to your father in law.

The Dorothy born in Bucklow also had middle initial M so it is looking like the same Dorothy!!

North Bierley where Ann was born is in Bradford West Yorks area.
Bucklow is in Cheshire.
