please can some one help me i am stuck with our pricilla emma graton she was born in about 1871 in barnstaple devon i have foun her on the 1881 cencus aged 8 months with her parentss caroline gratton and philip gratton then on the 1881 cencus she is living with caorline lock and john lock sa john locks step daughter so i think her mum must have married again then on the 1891 cencus she is living as a servant with william mills turner and his wife millcent then we can not find her any were so i am asking for some help please sue :-(

1871 census was the night of 2 April 1871

so the death in March Quarter 1871 for Phillip looks suspicious.
It has been known for widows to falsify their status if losing the breadwinner meant losing their rented house.
My Gt Grandmother did just that.

Actually, Mike, the death was March quarter 1870.

thanks yes i thought his death in 1871 looked funny i also got the marriage in 1879 but it is pricilla we cant find after 1891 cencus i have kooked for a marriage ,death and to see if she went adroad but no luck sue :-(

Maybe the forms were given out prior to the census and details filled in. Not all would be compiled on the exact day.
If he died in the last week or so of March, it could still be feasible. The widow just 'forgot' to mention a change of circumstance when the enumerator came to collect them.
