Aah, now could it be that he left his family because another source mentioned that an American family had tried to trace their ancestry and had no idea about 'the other family' . This was something to do with Arthur but I didn't understand what - I thought it was to do with his father!

That does seem odd - Arthur being listed as a maid - some definite confusion on that I agree

On his marriage Arthur states that his father is a Barrister.

I found Arthur had left for New York in 1891 from Liverpool
