all the fantastic information you have given has been brilliant, could I please ask does anyone know where James Lester b1872 was during the 1911 census?

Denise

Denise Report 9 Dec 2013 20:02

thankyou for all your help, having never posted before on this site was not really sure what I should have put, however just to clarify things

My grandfather was Frederick James Lester born 01 01 1916, on his birth certificate, I have been told, he has father as James Frederick Lester and mother Dorothy Louis Biggs, so looking at the information I had I tried to work backwards but couldn't definitely match him to any previous generations that came before I did have the details of James and Adelaide and have now linked them.

Once again thankyou

sorry about that, have tried to space it out better

That is hard to follow ... but at the end it shows Adelaide Daniels Lester in 1911 with daughters Florrie and Rosie.

So that leaves James Frederick himself being the 'Frederick' in the household with his maternal grandmother Adelaide Daniels as I posted above. :-)

Who knows why father James was called George in 1901 ... maybe he was James George and called George (he had a son George seen in the 1911) as son James Frederick was called Frederick.

The information for father James in that tree

1901 Age: 29
4 Cadiz Street Mile End Old Town
Polisher

matches the 1901 census info I posted for George Lester at 4 Cadiz St, so there we are!

this seems to be him with parents in 1891 per Ancestry, he and his father both cabinet makers

Name: James Lester
Age: 19
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1872
Relation: Son
Father's Name: James Lester
Mother's Name: Susan Lester
Where born: Islington
Civil Parish: Bethnal Green

so maybe he was called George to distinguish him from his father too :-)

Age: 6
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1875
Relationship to Head: Daughter

which pretty much has to make her this one in 1901 in spite of the husband's name being off!

Name: Adelade Lester

Estimated Birth Year: abt 1873
Relation to Head: Wife
Gender: Female
Spouse: George Lester
Birth Place: Leyton, Essex, England
Civil Parish: Mile End Old Town

The names Glitterbaby gives from administration of the estate match births to the Biggs marriage ...

Wise to give the information one has rather than say what information one does not have when asking for help! :-D

He likely went by Frederick to distinguish him from his father.

I would say this is him in 1911.

Name: Frederick Lester
Age in 1911: 14
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1897
Relation to Head: Grandchild
Birth Place: Leyton, Essex, England
Civil Parish: St Pancras
County/Island: London
Street Address: 2 Hargrave Place, Brecknock Road
Occupation: ERRAND BOY
Registration District: St Pancras

Adelaide Daniels 68 widow housekeeper
Frederick Lester 14 grandchild
George Lester 9 grandchild visitor

It seems like his mother Adelaide Daniels was named for her mother.

it appears that Adelaide the grandmother, above with the grandsons, is the housekeeper for this household at the same address
John Armes 67
Thomas Armes 64
as she was in 1901.
