Ohh was very excited when I saw the name Mozart as that is the middle name of Margaret's son.

That is the correct marriage ArgyllGran thank you.. I was a year out!

My mother in law seems to think that Margaret kept her mum's maiden name and married name, hence Brand Mozart. She had two brothers and two sisters, Jean, Eileen, Jim & Terry.

So Mary Lindsay Mozart born in 1900 should be her mum, Mary? Who then married a Brand? My mother in Law never met her biological grandad as she says that her gran remarried a man with the second name Pervis.

Could Edward J Mozart be Mary's father? If so, shouldn't Mary have shown up on the 1901 census?

She was the daughter of Robert Brand and Lindsay Shaw.

She married Edward J Mozart in Edinburgh in 1899 when she was about 39 yrs old

A chld named Mary Lindsay Mozart was born in Edinburgh in 1900 and at this stage, she is presumed to be the child of Edward and Margaret. although she does not appear with them on the 1901 census

A child named Margaret Brand Mozart was born in Edinburgh in 1933 and at this stage, she is presumed to be the child of Mary Lindsay Mozart.
( a first born daughter is traditionally named for her maternal grandmother. IE Margaret Brand)

Margaret Brand Mozart married William Johnstone in 1955 and died in1989.
Her death index shows her first/christian names as Mary Brand but her maiden name was Mozart.

Looking now at your last post, there is now a potential marriage for Mary.
Marriage of William Purves and Mary Mozart 1952. Cockpen, Midlothian

Something about this doesn't look right.

If above marriage refers to Mary, the mother of Margaret Brand Mozart, she would be over 50yrs old in 1952.
Where do Margaret's siblings fit in now?
Could above be a 2nd marriage?

They had a daughter named Mary Lindsay/ Lindsay Mary Mozart in 1900
THE CHILD DIED THE SAME YEAR

Edward and Margaret had another child.
EDWARD MOZART b 1902.
This son married MARY WILSON in 1925

I cannot be 100% sure but everything does add up that THEY will be the parents of Margaret Brand Mozart and her siblings.
This Edward Mozart died in Cockpen, Midlothian in 1950 and the search options on SP shows that his widow Mary, married William Purves in 1952.

Her name on this marriage search matches with both Wilson and Mozart!!!
Mary Purves died in Midlothian in 1985 aged 75yrs
Again, the death search matches all 3 names: Mary Purves/Mozart/Wilson

On the death index for Margaret in question
Her name is showing as: Margaret Brand Johnstone
Zoe simply assumed that Brand was her maiden name when in fact ,Margare tBrand was her given/ first names.
Maiden name was Mozart
She was named for "paternal" grandmother

Originally my mother in law asked if I could find information about her family and gave me her mother's name ~ margaret brand ~ she never mentioned mozart but when someone on here mentioned it, I remembered seeing it as her brother's middle name and made the connection.

Thank you GlasgowLass.. I have just emailed someone on Ancestry who has many Mozarts and Brands in their tree. They also have Lyndsay listed as dying in the same year she was born so what you have said makes more sense.

I wasn't optimistic about finding anything out, based on the little I had to begin with,so i am really pleased with what I now have to go on.

No-one else had checked it...................and Zoe didn't give us the full info, possibly because she hadn't been given it.......or hadn't checked

Why would anyone think Brand was her maiden name? This wasn't an American woman
