................as for a marriage (as stated before), you will need the birth certificate of one of the children to confirm mother's maiden name.

The census does put him in Nottinghamshire in 1901 so your Nottinghamshire marriage may be the fore runner, especially as the marriage was registered in E.Retford which is the reg.dist. for Babworth.

The 3 I have found are Eliza Parry married in Nottinghamshire East Retford, Eliza Ratican married in Lancashire Prestwick and Eliza Smalley married in Lancashire Bolton. Thomas and Eliza's children are Thomas, John, Emma Elizabeth and Mary Ellen.

This looks like Mary Ellen's birth (as in 1911 census)

so would also confirm mother's maiden name.

I have found three marriages between a thomas carter and eliza all in 1904 not sure which one it could be can anyone help please?

.....................Your really need the birth certificate to find out mother's name, it will also give you her maiden name which will help find a marriage for the parents.

I have now got the marriage certificate for thomas carter and norah rhodes who were married 31.1.1931. I now know that thomas's father was also called thomas. Does anyone have any more information please.

Do you know if Walter and Nellie were older or younger than Thomas?

Obviously if they were younger......they wont appear with Thomas on the 1911 census.

Thomas carter maybe had a brother walter and a sister nellie.

I think you will need to purchase the marriage cert.

Thomas carter definitely had siblings but unfortunately we are unsure of their names, all we know is he married norah rhodes in 1931.

I'm not seeing a Thomas Carter born 1909/1910 Ecclesall Bierlow on the 1911 census.

Even if i did........there is no way of knowing if he is actually your Grandfather.

Do you have any other info about him?

Do you know if he had any siblings?

It might be in your best interest to purchase a copy of his marriage cert, which will hopefully give you information as to who his father was, and his fathers occupation.
