Thanks, I am on both and scotlandspeople is getting costly as there is so much to research. I suppose they will put the census on Ancestry one day.

MarieCeleste Report 30 Mar 2014 13:58

Hello Doreen, because it's only available on Scotland's People, which is an excellent site for Scottish research.

http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

It's a pay per view site but the credits are reasonably priced (£7 for 30). Costs 5 credits to view a census image.

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 30 Mar 2014 13:58

Scotlandspeople own the rights to it and as it is a pay to view site I would doubt they would reduce their income by letting a subscription site use it. Also I should add that Ancestry only have transcripts of the other Scottish census. The original images of those can be viewed at Scotlandspeople.

The original household returns for the Scottish 1911 haven't survived as far as I am aware. It is, I think, the enumerator's returns that you can view on Scotlandspeople.

Doreen

Doreen Report 30 Mar 2014 13:27

Anyone know why ancestry doesn't have 1911 scotand census?

Doreen

Doreen Report 25 Mar 2014 09:49

I can't find a death for her. I can't find a marriage either.

She has a sister born about 1825 Jean Rutherord but I can't find a birth for her.

You may have signed up for a month's free trial, but had to give credit card details??

This usually means that you can cancel within that month by giving notice to Ancestry, but if you don't cancel a years worth of subscription will be taken.

You need to check as rootgatherer suggests!

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 24 Mar 2014 10:50

I think you need to check "my account" on Ancestry and ensure that automatic renewal has not been selected.

Ancestry only has transcripts for Scottish census. The only site with original images is Scotlandspeople which as you know is a pay to view site.

Doreen

Doreen Report 24 Mar 2014 08:02

no I'll have a look for a death this evening. I seem to remember that I couldn't find a death for her, but I'll check.

I have joined Ancestry yesterday and clicked on a months subscription. Does this mean I have signed up for a year to be paid monthly or can I end it after a month? I was awake for a while last night thinking about this!

rootgatherer Report 23 Mar 2014 09:02

Since Katherine / Catherine Used the surname Addison / Edison it is almost certain that she knew who her father was. Have you found her death registration please? It is possible that that will give her father's name, if the informant knew his details.

Doreen

Doreen Report 23 Mar 2014 08:06

birth for Katharine Rutherford shows:

Margaret Rutherford at East Mill had her daughter baptized, her brother George in the parish of Scone, being ? Katharine.

So it doesn't show a dad and I don't know if this means Katharine had a brother George as I can't find anything on LDS for him.

Thank you. I found searching the kirk records really hard and didn't find anything. I will check out on Scotslandpeople.

It may be worth checking the original image on Scotlandspeople for that a birth as it may give a little more information. It may also be worth tracking down the Kirk Session minutes for Rattray as they may hold details of the father of the child.

This appears to be the only Addison family in Rattray around the correct time. Remember ages were rounded down to multiples of 5 for the peurpose of the 1841 census.

Admin history The Parish of Rattray originally formed a prebend belonging to the Sub-Dean of Dunkeld. Ministry of the church is recorded from 1574 in the person of Donald Cargill. In 1946, following the 1929 union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, Rattray Parish Church was united with the former United Free congregation of Rattray East. After the local union both churches remained in use. In 1988 the parish of Kirkmichael, Straloch and Glenshee was linked with Rattray. Rattray Kirk Session sat within the Presbytery of Dunkeld, later of Meigle and it presently sits within the Presbytery of Dunkeld and Meigle.

These census records look familiar. I'm sure we worked on this family before as I remember looking up Margaret Rutherford and Samuel Grassie before. Perhaps someone can find the other thread .... If it hasn't been deleted. Meanwhile I'll have a look for it.

I've just checked it and it doesn't give any relationships. So not much further on that. from LDS it seems Catherine Fraser was John Cowie's mum.

Doreen

Doreen Report 20 Mar 2014 17:55

Yes maybe that's her Stuart. I didn't make the connection. I think I need to check out that census to get more details. Those were given to me by someone else so there may be more info on the census. Thanks

Thanks Ann.

I had seen that census and wondered if Addison had been mixed up with Adamson anywhere along the line?????????? It's the only Thomas and DAvid Robertson of about the right age with a Catherine in the mix.
