Maureen, I'm actually stunned!...And hugely grateful! This is definitely them! They did all live at 15 Ackmar Road with my dad. Can you confirm that is the case? If so, when and how?
Also, yes, I think that Gladys & Lil must have been the children of Edward and Annie!
This is THE biggest breakthrough that I have had where this is concerned!
Thank you so much!!! x :-D

The above were living at 15 Ackmar with your father.
I think MAYBE they were the daughters of Edward James FOWLER and Annie...both born in Watford Herts.

Ok, this is helpful Reggie! Thank you.
From the looks of it there, Lily Hillier got married and died in '86. That's definitely not the Lily that I'm looking for! My Lily had polio, never married and died
I think that I have got the wrong Liliy & Gladys!
Ok, here is what I know:
From what my dad remembers: Lily & Glad were referred to as granddads 'Stepsisters'. They were roughly the same age as, or perhaps slightly older than my granddad ( he was born 1920). My dad recalled their surname as Fowler. Lily had Polio, she never married and died somewhere around 1960/65. Glad married a man named Len Hillier (I couldn't find this, but I did find a Gladys Hillier, marrying a Leonard Denby, around the right sort of time, hence why I went with the assumption that perhaps her maiden name was Hillier and that's what my dad was recalling. They had a younger brother called John Fowler as well.
The documented facts are few: It basically boils down to my granddads service record as discussed earlier, which has the following under next of kin - Stepfather (Illegible first name) Fowler 37 Irene Road Fulham. That has been crossed out and replaced with - Step sister Miss. L. Fowler 15 Ackmar Road Fulham.
15 Ackmar Road, is where my granddad lived and where my dad was born.
I should just say, my granddads mum apparently 'gave him away to a family down the road'. Grandads mum was Matilda May Leeds. She did get married to a Frederick Rogers and had two other kids with him. Both of whom were also given away, Frederick Jnr. my dad remembers him and the other child, Phillip, we only discovered through this website, he went to Barnados (I've checked with Barnados and they have no record of my granddad).
I'm sorry this is so complex lol!

How does 'Miss' Fowler fit in with the BMD info?
Perhaps some kind person with Ancestry access will be willing to look at the ER's for 1937/8

Thanks all!
Reggie: The 'Step sisters' were born with the surname Hillier (Mothers surname was Copson). The document I have, is part of my Grandads war records, it is a Statement of services and is a bit of an enigma in itself, as it is completely blank aside from stating my Grandads next of kin. Originally, it said 'Step father (Something illegible) Fowler, 37 Irene Road, Fulham'. This has been crossed out and replaced with 'Step sister, Miss. L. fowler, 15 Ackmar Road, Fulham'. She was Lily, my dad remembers her as 'Aunt Lil', he also remembers her sister 'Aunt Glad'.
Marie: I can't read the step fathers first name, as it has been crossed out :-(
Both: Yes! That's my grandad! His mum (Matilda May Leeds) did remarry, to a man named Frederick Rogers and they had two sons, Frederick and Philip. I can trace my family back from Matilda May, but what happened with my grandad remains a mystery. He was born in Milton Regis Workhouse, there was no father on his birth cert. The story always was, that his mum 'gave him away' to a family that lived down the road. Grandad died when my dad was 13, so I've had to work pretty hard to find out all the information so far. But I really want to know who took him in and why?
I've been able to piece things together so far, through my dad's memory. But I'm stuck with this. I wish I could see the 1921 census, now! Lol!

Elliot, I think it's improbable that the family were at the same address in 1911 as they would have been in WW2.
Was a first name given for the stepfather?
Is it possible that your grandfather's mother may have remarried - I think that would be the more usual reason to have a stepfather. Who was Alan's father and when did he die?
