Edmond's first wife Charlotte Jones was an Indo Briton. If the same were true of Margaret, and there seems to be no evidence either way, then that could account for any 'Indian' looks Alice may have had, if Margaret were her biological mother, rather than the adoptive mother of family legend.
If Edmond is the father of Alice by a Maharajah's daughter, then he was playing away from home very early in the marriage, as he only married Margaret on 11th Nov 1840, and Alice was born 18th Dec 1841, and baptised as Edmond and margaret's daughter on 1st Jan 1842.

Well done Kucinta. I had received this from Ted so he did know Margaret's maiden name but good sleuthing.
Thank you for the information supplied Alice Clarkson B 1841 is the one. Edmond Cooper Clarkson is Edmond Clarkson's son by his third wife Phoebe Cooper M 1846.
Alice Clarkson, family legend say that she was adopted by Edmond's wife Margaret Laurence, she was the daughter of an Indian Maharajah born in Madras. No information as yet can be found about her mother
Photos of her confirm the Indian connection.

Eureka!!!!!!!!!!!
Think I've finally found Edmund's marriage to Margaret, mother of Alice, though Ted probably already knows this.
Edmund is called Edward here, but on the image he is 'Edward Clarkson**** Sergt Major 40th Regt N I *******widow.
Margaret was a spinster, and surname is Lawrence on the image:

I didn't find any trace of Alice's full brother, William Edmond Clarkson in the India records after his birth, nor was I able to identify a marriage or death in India for Thomas Clarkson born 1839,second son of that name of Edmund and first wife Charlotte.

James E F Vincent was a stoker on the railway.
EDIT: Son Edmond Cooper Clarkson (by Phebe )'s marriage to Agnes Caroline Vincent in 1874 had already been posted by alviegal. The FMP version of the marriage shows Agnes' father to be James Davis Vincent, so given James Edmond Foster Vincent's father is J D Vincent, it looks like a Clarkson brother and sister married a Vincent sister and brother.

Looking at the images of the baptisms of the children of Edmund Clarkson and Phenbe Cooper, it looks like Edmund was pensioned off sometime between the birth of Esther in 1856, and the birth of Ellen in 1859.
For Esther and the other children he is described as Garrison Sergt Major, but as previously stated in the birth and Death of Ellen, and death of wife Phebe. he is Pensioned Sergt Major.

This might be a complete red herring as you don't say where Edmund is born, but we know he said at his 1846 marriage to Phebe Cooper his father was Edmund Clarkson blacksmith of Preston, Yorkshire (deceased).
Edmund was supposedly aged 39 in 1846, but he was marrying an 18 yr old so may have been flexible with his age....
