Yes, that was my thought Marie - it could be anywhere and the name is pretty common so difficult to be sure. Maybe she packed him off to Mexico :-D

Looking at the 1891 census for Jane and Joseph I see he's an out of work iron miner.

He possibly went elsewhere to find work so his death could be outside the area (haven't found him in Utah though!)

Thank you Eileen all help is greatly appreciated. The death for young Josiah is indeed the correct one, I had totally overlooked this as it appeared to be in the wrong area. And yes, that is the marriiage I found for Jane/Josiah which started this search.

Poor woman, I'd dubbed her the black widow as she seemed to gain husbands/children but I could never find the deaths of her husbands. I now assume 1st husband Josiah died in Mexico, but we still dont have the death of Joseph Cook the second husband! I can't find him anywere :-S

Although thanks to you lot I do now have the death of the third husband - my great uncle! My great gran always wondered what happened to her brother - she was round the corner from him in 1891 but lost contact with him after she moved with her new husband to Lindale. She knew of of Isaacs wedding though, as she wrote to her twin Margaret of it.

Also found this Jane Turner married to Josiah Eva in Ulverston Cumbria 1878

Thanks Dea, very interesting a lot of work has gone into that, and it confirms Josiah's parents Samuel/Jane Reid.

Well not a great deal of luck at the RO, it appears she didn't marry Josiah or Isaac in church - well at least not in Dalton. However, she did marry Joseph Cook in church claiming to be a widow. I'm now inclined to believe this as her ex mother-in-law, sister-in-law & brother-in-law were all living very close by.

Sorry for all the time spent on a wild goose chase, but it looks likely Josiah died in Mexico but hasn't been registered. Just wish we could have found the family returning to the UK to confirm this.

One of the witnesses to the Cook/Eva marriage was his brother Dixon Cook - who can be found in the census records round the corner from Jane 1891/01/1911 - so I guess Joseph must have died somewhere for her to marry Isaac in 1897? Guess it would be dangerous for a bigamous marriage in a fairly small community, especially when her son Dixon Cook was living with her.

I'm going down to the library see if I can find Jane's marriage certificates in the parish records - see what status she puts.

Pretty sure now that death for Isaac Mawson is him - so thanks everyone. I'm not 100% on John Eva, it looks promising but there were a number of John Eva's about in Cornwall on 1871 of a similar age - at least 2 of them were miners.

As for Joseph Cook, I haven't a clue where he disappeared to :-S I'll see if his son Dixon Cook got married at the parish church, see what that gives.

Ella Jones born 16/8/1888 died 25th May 1980 in Ulverston.

1911 she is a barmaid named Ellaline !! Eva born Mexico.

Thanks Chris, yes I've just found the info from findagrave - found the one for Isaac Mawson as well, but no more info on his.

It really does look like the right death for the child - I can't see another Josiah born which would match. Guess they went back to cornwall for a while.

Wow, thanks for all this - have been doing a bit of digging around re John Eva - found him on 1900/1910 census with wife Nellie (Franks), and her daughter. He claims to have arrived in US somewhere between 1879-81 depending on which census you look at.

I'm assuming the divorced status refers to his divorce from Nellie. Weird thing though on the 1904 city directory they are living at 62.5 Richards street, same address as given on Isaac Mawson's death cert. There must be some connection between them.

Sorry Alvigal, I don't have Ella's marriage cert to check what she put down for her father though. MC, does the death for John give his address, or father's name please?

That must be Isaac heading out in 1904 - too much of a coincidence not to be him :-D

Re: the John Eva death that safc posted above, again the info on the actual certificate is vague - nothing known about him other than born in England and was single. He also died of TB. Had been in Utah 40 years. Worked in copper mines.

This checks out with a John Eva who is divorced on the 1920 census.

Could be that Josiah Eva died in Mexico. He's not on British Nationals died overseas but if they were mining and not near a consulate then it might not have been properly registered.

Have found the death certificate for Isaac Mawson on FamilySearch.

Whoever registered his death didn't know a lot about him.

Born England, been in Salt Lake 19 years. Parents name unknown. Married, but wife's first name unknown. Date of birth not known (appears age guessed).

Died of pulmonary TB 26/04/1921, buried 01/06/1921

Age given as 51. Address 62½ Richards Street
