Thanks all. I think the shipping record is not him, but Gins death could be the first son - there wasn't another Josiah birth registered in the right time frame. So maybe she went down to Cornwall for a time - and the Eva's originated from Redruth. Though I can't place the rest of the family there after they migrated to Furness.

Although I'm 100% on this, father Samuel Eva died in 1890 in Dalton, and mother Jane (widow) was with daughter Eliza Ann (Sleep) in 1891, dieing in 1894 again in Dalton.

No Mary, I can't find them either - rather odd, as they must have returned between 1887-90 (allowing for an error in daughters age).

I can't even find Ella 1889 or any of the others on shipping records, they must have come back shortly after her birth if Jane marries Joseph cook in 1890!!

I think the occupation on that shipping record is 'Farmer'

Have you considered this for the death of the youngest son?

Hi Maddie, thanks for that - can you make out the occupation please? I know he was a miner from previous census and occupation given on their marriage.

Forgot to mention, Jane's mother was Ellen Allen the parents married in Kendal but her name was recorded as Allan on the marriage. Jane had 6 older siblings, so I have most of her history - it's what she did with the hubbies I'm interested in ;-)

Hi All,

I've dubbed this one the black widow. She was christened in Dalton in Furness, Lancashire on 4/3/1860, the daughter of Thomas Turner.

In 1878 she married Josiah Eva, who was born 1856 in Wendron, Cornwall, a miner. They had children Josiah (1878, but no death found), as found on 1881 census when she was staying with the in-laws in Dalton, but husband not present. She went on to have Emma Jane (1882) born in Dalton, and Ella (c1889 Mexico).

I've not found a death for the husband, but she went on to marry Joseph Cook 25/12/1890 and they appeared on 1891 census. No sign of youngest son Josiah, just the 2 daughters. They went on to have son Dixon Cook in 1891.

Strike down husband #2, but not found his death. By 1901 she is on the census married to Isaac Mawson (Born Eskdale, Cumberland 1868 - I have all his history), they married in 1897 again at Dalton. She has Emma, Ella, Dixon Cook and another child Isaac Mawson (born 1897 Dalton).

By 1911 she is still around at 2 Devonshire St Dalton, with sons Isaac Mawson & Dixon Cook, stating married but I can't find husband Isaac on the 1911 census.

Have tried shipping lists for the family Eva, no luck. Deaths for any of her 3 husbands or youngest child - again no luck. So what did she do with them???

As ever, any help greatly appreciated :-D
