Ok, here's a challenge,
Uncle Arthur in 1901 was in England, in 1925 he's in the Channel Islands headed for South Africa, married and his last permanent residence was India, I haven't found his marriage yet but what is really bugging me is when did he go to India and when did he get back and when did he get married and ...................... AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

NAME : Arthur Ernest Davis
BORN : Feb 1880 in Witney, Oxfordshire
1901 : Farmers Assistant
1925: nil
travelling with: Mrs. E. Davis age - 40

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 30 May 2014 05:07

RockyMountainShy

RockyMountainShy Report 30 May 2014 05:13

Yeah well the Davis family definitely follow their own set of rules.

I'm good - now. Dad did try and die on us later year :-( but he is fine now, he's in remission so he just has to stay that way.

How are you?

RockyMountainShy

RockyMountainShy Report 30 May 2014 05:16

SylviaInCanada Report 30 May 2014 05:43

Glad to hear your Dad rallied. Long may he stay in remission.

we're doing OK ................ although the first months of this year have been horrendous

OH's sister died of cancer in mid-January, same day my daughter stabbed herself, 1 week later I heard an English friend had died, 1 month later a close friend died of cancer, and a couple of weeks after that another very close friend died very suddenly

We were reeling ........... daughter recovered but it turned out there were marital problems, and they are going through counselling.

I don't think we have ever had such a tumultous time ................ we had to fly north in mid-January for 3 days, then 1 day later over to the Maritimes for 8 or 9 days

Fingers crossed it's easing up now.

SylviaInCanada Report 30 May 2014 05:47

so, in 1901 he says he was born in Witney, Oxfordshire

not sure that helps at all though :-)

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 30 May 2014 06:18

Beejay

Beejay Report 30 May 2014 11:42

Hello RMS

Am I right in thinking members of your family were Wesleyan (I helped you once before I think). If so could this be your man with a name change

Arthur Ernest Davis born 28 Feb 1880 son of Charles & Rebekah of Witney
Christened 4 May 1880 at Witney Wesleyan

I haven't looked any further in case I'm barking up the wrong tree

A long shot. [EDIT: No, I see you've changed his name from Edward to Ernest in your opening post, and have accepted the Witney birth posted by Beejay.]

Could this be him returning from an earlier stint in S Africa?
This one's a bricklayer.
It doesn't say if he was married or not.

Ok I made a mistake, his middle name is Ernest NOT Edward. I've changed it at the top too.

Yes, Beejay he is the son of Charles and Rebecca.

Doesn't look that way.

"Lived with A.C. (his brother) until 1923 when he got married and went to South Africa"

If Arthur came back after 1919 A.C. lived in Lincolnshire, if he came back before 1919 in Leicestershire

RockyMountainShy

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 30 May 2014 19:40
