A good evening's work thanks to MarieCeleste finding that Belfast birth. It's so satisfying when we can work as a team. I shall go to bed happy tonight.

I presumed Mary was my greatgrandmother going by the dates of birth. These I found on the grave stone. Mary, Samuel, Wilfred and Clara are in the same grave. Will send for certificates. Thanks for advice. My internet is hit and miss so I apolagise if you receive this more than once.

Yes MarieCeleste, the burial was on Ancestry.

Funnily enough, I saw that Stott family in Govan earlier this evening and was drawn to it because Wilfred's middle name was David. Shipbuilding was thriving in Govan at that time and drew workers from all airts and pairts !

Brenda, it looks like we have found Samuel's first wife for you but your Dad's birth certificate will hopefully confirm that we have found his Mum.

EDIT

Brenda, I should have added get you Dad,s birth certificate first and if his Mum is Sarah Jane Harling, then buy Samuel and Sarah,s marriage certificate. That way you won't need the marriage certificate of Samuel and Clara if you only want your direct line x

Now I wonder about this couple? Parts of Belfast come within County Down.

It is looking as if my family originate from Belfast. will get fathers birth certificate

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 3 Jun 2014 21:40

Yes, I understand that Brenda but your Grandfather's marriage certificate to Clara will give his father's name if known.

Your father's birth certificate will name his mother.

How do you know that your Great grandmother was Mary A Stott please?

I do think that you need to buy those certificates if you don't have them or any information found may be inaccurate.

Brenda

Brenda Report 3 Jun 2014 21:34

I have no further details of Clara. I am more interested in my birth family. Thanks again Brenda

Maybe Cyril's birth?

I would think that you really need a copy of your father's birth certificate to get his mother's name and maiden name.
