interesting as I have seen in the past a copy of marriage cert of Nichol and im fairly certain his mothers name was isabella (which could be sybella?) i have sent for his marriage cert and my fathers birth cert i will also send for Nichols birth cert now.

I was wondering where the daughter called Sybella born 1898 (who is in the 1901 census) was in the 1911 census as she is not with father William. However this looks like her with grandparents:-

Names are often changed slightly and I can't see anyone else in the census that could be him.

Your best bet would be to buy his birth certificate and see if it gives his father's name as William (as per the census record).

hi cath thanks for your reply. I think that is him, im confused because he was definately Nichol when he died 1957. and my father was Nichol named after him. The date of birth ties up even though is Nichel. Do you think its possible that he is the nicholas in the 1911 census? i cant find any other variants of the name in 1911.
