Is this June with no Mr Lawrence?

Australia, Electoral Rolls, 1903-1980
June Phyllis Lawrence
Gender: Female
Electoral Year: 1954
State: Victoria
District: Hoddle
Subdistrict: Carlton
(669 Rathdown Street)

When do you think he left her and Mr Lane moved in?

Sarah, I know this is rather delicate and I don't mean to cause any offence, but it does seem a possibility that Keith Lawrence and George Alfred Lane were two different people.

Could Keith be your mum's father, he and June parted then she and George met (his wife having upped and offed back to England)? Could George's vagueness about his identity perhaps have been a way to protect June?

Obviously, you know your family best so would have an inkling if this was a possibility. Do you know if the names George and Keith were interchangeable throughout his life? Or was Keith the name up to a certain point and George thereafter?

I definitely think that immigration record is worth following up on and would be worth asking for access.

I'm 95% certain that Keith and George are the same person, and during my life, I only knew him to use the name George.

The possibility that Keith and George are 2 separate people has occurred to me on occasion - usually when i'm frustrated with the search.

I guess that's the main reason for my original query - to ascertain whether George and Keith are the same person or 2 separate people.

I got June's details - her parents, her birth etc. My mother was born in Melbourne and lived in St Kilda.

The only info I have on "Keith Lawrence" from Wanthaggi is what is on my mother's birth certificate - age 32 (in 1952 when my mum was born) and occupation Electrician and from Wanthaggi. That is ALL I have on him.

I can not find anything else on him anywhere.

For those interested:

'Wonthaggi is located in South Gippsland, several kilometres inland from the coast and between the seaside towns of Kilcunda and Inverloch.' (in Victoria)

Sorry, this is 'Wonthaggi' you have written Wanthaggi - same place?

Sarah, was there an actual address on your mum's birth certificate?

I take it George definitely was an electrician?

State: Victoria
District: Flinders
Subdistrict: Wonthaggi

Australia, Electoral Rolls, 1903-1980

Yes, sorry - I meant Wonthaggi, not Wanthaggi..

And no, there was no address on my mother's birth certificate. It only said Wonthaggi.

And as far as I know, George was definitely an electrician. But - there are so many inconsistencies that I don't know what is what.

Sarah, did the birth certificate not give ANY addresses at all, not even where your mother was born or the usual address of June? (I know info on certs varies by states and I'm not sure what info they give as compared to those here in the UK)

maybe an address would be on baptism records .
This story is fascinating ...keep us posted .

MarieCeleste.. No, my mother's birth certificate did not give ANY addresses at all. Father was listed as Keith Lawrence, Wonthaggi. That is it. NO other details about his location or anyone else's address.

I don't think that Joseph George Lawrence and Rachel May Lawrence had any children. You can follow them through the ERs until 1977 and there only seems to be the two of them.

I'm being devil's advocate here rootgatherer, but what if they had a child who left home before they attained voting age? They would then never be recorded with their parents.

Yes, that is a possibility MarieCeleste.

Just having a quick look at the ERs to see if I can find a Keith Lawrence listed as an Electrician but I really must go and do some chores. Still trying to catch up after a holiday. :-)
