Hi all, I need some help!

Eliza Sylvia/Sylvie Homer was my great grandmother

She was the daughter of Andrew Homer and Sylvia/Selvey Wood

I have Eliza in census as follows:

1851 Born Dudley 1845
1861 Born Dudley 1846
1871 Born Dudley 1849
1881 Born Dudley 1849
1850 Born Woodside Dudley 1850
1901 Born Dudley 1845
1911 Born Woodside Dudley 1843

Marriage certificate 13.11.1871 aged 22 years = 1849
Death 09.02.1922 77 years = 1845

So I sent for what I thought was her birth certificate March 1844 18 316 and it bombed as this is the daughter of Edward and Phoebe.

There are several other possibilities between 1843 and 1850 of which at least three others fit the most likely period of 1843/4.

Can anyone find a baptism that might narrow it? Or am I doomed to buying more certs until I find the right one?

No no certs Shirley...but I have pretty much everything else for all her siblings except Martha who was very inconsiderate and married a Mr Jones!

The first four children and the last child appear to have been baptised, as were two grandchildren (as their sons)...but in the middle Eliza, Andrew and Cornelius (above) do not appear to have been baptised.

if you look on this site there are unnamed children registered so could be one of them perhaps??
see Cornelius is there born/ registered 1846

I'd be tempted to order from WMbmd as they record sub-registration districts. If the births for Andrew & Cornelius are correct then they were in the Dudley sub-district - as Eliza was born between them (1851 census), then it would look likely she was born same district - and there's only one:

Is there any way of correlating the Dudley bmd to GRO?

The one I bought that's not her is sub-district Rowley Regis so that bodes well!

Trouble is you have 3 births in 1844, Tipton, Dudley and Rowley regis - and no quarters given on WMbmd. You already have one, so if you order the other from GRO it's a 50/50 chance you'll get it right.

Someone on the same GRO ref as Eliza in Q3 is Charlotte Malpass - she was born in the dudley sub district, her reference on WMbmd is DUD/020/315, whereas Eliza's was DUD/020/319 so fairly close together (the last 3 digits are the entry number I believe). They must have been registered very close together. The GRO reference is 18/271.

Don't blame me if you waste another £9.25, but another on 18/271 is Elizabeth Silvers, bmd ref DUD/020/314.

Yes Mary that's her....John her husband was in St Cadoc's a local mental hospital where he died six years later...if you go back to the original post you'll see she was very fluid with her year of birth :-)

Flip I am going to order from WMid because as you say she is the only one who comes up Dudley sub-district ...just wondered if there was a correlation. I'm on a bad week this week - out of four certificates two were right and two were wrong
