Katie Report 17 Aug 2014 13:00

My grandfather Frederick William Crann born 14th April 1911 died August 1991 (where exact DOB came from) married my grandmother Elsie Frances Cooper 24th December 1929 at the register office St Marylebone, London.

He is too young to be on the 1911 census, his marriage certificate states that his father is Henry Crann (deceased) Stoker RN and he is a private 106911854 in the rifle brigade.

I can't find his birth (ordered a St Marylebone birth certificate and didn't have the right DOB, father's name or occupation on) also can't find his father on the 1911 census or his fathers death.

It is rumoured that Crann may have been a stepfathers surname but I am unable to find out anymore information as my mother has Alzheimer's.

Can anyone help point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Gee

Hi Katie and welcome to the boards.

Is this the birth cert you ordered.....

Births Jun 1911 (>99%)
Crann Frederick W Marylebone 1a 449

Gee Report 17 Aug 2014 13:29

I can't see a medal card for Henry Crann, if he served in WW1 he would have had one

Frederick could have made up his fathers details for the marriage? His DOB may or may not be correct, the information given by the informant of his death may not have given the correct details

PricklyHolly Report 17 Aug 2014 13:31

There are two other Crann births in Marylebone that I thought I would check out on the 1911 census.

Unfortunately they both died in infancy.

He would have been too young to be in WW1 as he was born in 1911.
