If you have found Baptisms of yours, as evidence, then you could tell him!, otherwise 'put Frederick on hold'.

Is that the Death of your Thomas posted earlier, when did Elizabeth die, have you got them on Census?...

Trudy Report 13 Nov 2014 08:05

Hello again Chris

Well this is the thing when I asked him about it he didn't reply to my message. Then gave me access to his tree and said that I had got the parents wrong for my Thomas vial b1821.

And when I looked at his tree he has my Thomas 1821 under Elizabeth Smee and unknown?? So I am confused.

It doesn't take much to confuse me but ???

Thank you
Trudy :-)

Trudy Report 13 Nov 2014 07:47

Hello I. Was hoping someone might be able to help me,
I have been tracing my tree for a while now and contacted another person with a possible match only to be really confused by his reply.
It was as follows

My match was
Thomas vial b 1795 Essex married to Elizabeth smee their children were all born in Essex and were
Elizabeth vial b1819,,
Sarah vial b1820,,
Thomas vial b1821,,
Joseph vial b1826,,
Alfred vial b1828,,

But when I got a reply from my match he had a completely different child called Frederick o Viall born to the same parents and said my ones were wrong?? Have I got it wrong?? I was wondering if anybody could help me at all try and clear this up as its really bothering me.

Thank you in advance
Trudy

Chris :)

Looking round there seems to be another born earlier Bocking Essex (Baptism 1784 Birthdate 1782) Find My Past.

So could get confusing, also that surname could have quite a few variants. What evidence does he have?...

Chris :)

Last name: Viall

Recorded in many spelling modern forms including Vial, Viall, Vitall, Vittle, Viel, Vyel, and no doubt others, this is an English surname. It is or was originally a personal name of endearment from the pre 7th century and possibly as far back as Roman times. It derives from from the Latin word "vitalis", a derivative of "vita", meaning life or perhaps pertaining to life. It was introduced into Britain after the Norman Conquest of 1066 in the Old French forms of Vitel and Viel, and it became popular with Christians during the religious revival period of the 12th century as a symbol of their belief in eternal life, particulary as Vitalis was a name borne by a dozen of the early saints. The name development has included such recordings as Richard Viel of Devonshire in 1194, John Vitell of Sussex in 1207, Henry Vyel of Worcestershire in 1275, and Thomas Vyall of Suffolk in 1574. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Radulfus Vitalis. This was dated 1086, in the Domesday Book for Devonshire, during the reign of King William Ist of England, 1066 - 1086. Throughout the centuries, surnames in every country have continued to "develop" often leading to astonishing variants of the original spelling.

"Nonconformist (or Non-conformist) was a term used in England and Wales after the Act of Uniformity 1662 to refer to a Protestant Christian who did not "conform" to the governance and usages of the established Church of England."

There was alot of it about in Essex....My Essex lot were Baptists and then joined the 'Peculiar People' both being Non Conformist.

Jus in case they are C of E Banns I checked the registers for a marriage up to a year after the date of the intended marriage and there isn't one, of course it might be Banns being read in his church and the actual marriage took place in her church.

I think a copy of the notice should help to work out whether it is non con notice or ordinary Banns...Well I have my fingers crossed that it does!

Chris in Sussex Report 11 Nov 2014 13:51

Sussed it..I think!

FS has the notice of 'Intended Marriage' not the marriage itself and that is making it look even more likely to be a non con marriage.

Still worth getting a copy to see what it says I think.

Chris in Sussex Report 11 Nov 2014 13:48

There is something funny about that marriage.....

Family Search has it as being transcribed from "Church of England. Parish Church of Chelmsford" but I cannot find the entry on Seax for that date in the Cof E registers.

Have you got a copy of it Trudy? If not I would order one from FS to confirm where it took place as it might be non con, also the witnesses may give you a lead for family connections.

Chris
