My concern that Charles Checkley, who joined the army when he was 16, is back and I would be grateful if anybody could see who the family is of :- |

Thank you MarieCeleste, it certainly matches but unfortunately it is not who I hoped to see. Does 1851 hold any Charles of birth c.1842 please? |

His full service records sadly don't give a next of kin before his marriage to Eliza Grubb |

The 1841 & 1851 I posted above have previously been posted but no harm in verification. |

Sorry Marie Celeste but we seem to be back on the old track of the Charles born 1838 not 1841-43. My biggest worry now is that his mother was not actually married to a Job at the time of Charles birth and that she was too ashamed (or a heathen) to get him christened. |

Hi Jacqueline, yes he gave his father's name as Job when he married in Jan 1872 |

Jacqueline I have read through this thread end to end but I am failing to see the enlistment date. It is probably me not reading it right but could you possibly be more specific? |

Of course it's me not understanding what I am looking at and I have now seen the 'Attestation' info. How he can be 16 and 20 at the same time is probably ' Family Knowledge' being a bit astray. May be, while in the army he had a bump on the head that made him 2 years younger for the rest of his life? |
