Cherilyn, awesome stuff. My g grandfather was 1865 MEYER Philip Henry / Edward MEYER / Eliza GREEN / Grey / 35/109

He moved to Grong Grong NSW a farm called Wilga Park.. The family history book said that Edward Ellis Meyer came out on the Navarino in 1837 and was born in 1827 but the passenger list says Ellis Meyer was a teacher I thought they were two separate people but as you point out in the obit he was 83 years that would have made him born in 1821 and 16 or 17 when he emigrated young for a teacher now but in those days.... this is great thanks heaps. The history has Eliza passing on 14 Feb 1920 so not sure about the 1880 marriage? And the history doesnt have Richard Herbert in 1879 ... awesome :-)

A Meyer Meyer, merchant, of Hull is mentioned here, indicating they were Jewish:

This article states that Ellis Meyer was a schoolmaster at Torrensdale. Eldest daughter Fanny. Lots on Trove about Edward Meyer's school at Torrensdale around the 1860s. I suspect he preferred to be known by middle name Ellis.

If this is his death in SA, his father is shown as 'Meyer Meyer' of Hull, Yorks.

The Advertiser, Thursday 17 November 1904
DEATHS.
MEYER,-On the 1st November, at Adelaide Hospital, Ellis Meyer, beloved husband of Elizabeth Meyer, youngest son by first wife of Meyer Meyer, Esq., silk, ivory, and fur merchant, of Hull, Yorkshire, newsvendor, stand Hooper's Corner, in his 83rd year, resident Tam O'Shanter-place. At rest.

His obit:
Mr. Ellis Meyer, who died at the age of 83 years last week, arrived in Adelaide on December 6, 1837, by the ship Navarino, commanded by Captain Morgan. He resided at Mount Gambier for many years, but for the last quarter of a century he had lived in Adelaide. He left a widow.

So it seems that arrival is him, not his father, and he was about 15 at the time. Is it possible that 1827 was his baptism/christening and that he was born c1822? Not sure where the Ancestry tree has its info from but I can't see a 1918 death that matches.

Might have to be careful with this one, there is a tree on Ancestry that has the following

Edward Ellis/Ellis Edward Meyer
Birth 9/3/1822 in 1652400, Yorkshire, England
Death 15/7/1918 in Mt Gambier, South Australia

with parents
Solomon Meyer
1766 – 1863
Sarah Elizabeth Samuel
1787 – 1828

( I say 'careful' because there is someone of the same name born around the same time marrying in London...with different parents though)
