Can't even look for them in 1901 until we have more facts.

There are three births for Clara Hobson in Sheffield within the year 1880/1

Similarly, more than one birth for George A Robson, including one in 1878 which seems more feasible, somehow

The best piece of info at the moment would be when the father died.............and where.

Thanks - I think a visit to Lilly the daughter born 1918 is the best way forward

I don't think the 1911 marriage is the one you want. It looks to me as though Clara HOBSON married Arthur PLATT and George WILSON married Alice MARTIN.

Agree with Maureen that Arthur Platt married Clara as they are on 1911 in Sheffield
Image shows married under one year

1911 has a George Wilson b1889 Sheffield married to Alice and again that shows married under 1 year

No wonder they can't be found on the 1911 census

Perhaps a birth cert is required.............unless Lily can remember her mother's first name

Did you have anything other than the surnames on which to base the assumption about the 1911 marriage?

The suggestion about a previous marriage for the mother may not now be so unlikely.
